MBB recruiting: 2024 contact period begins

The contact period began for recruits in the 2024 class yesterday. Coaches now have the opportunity to reach out and speak with rising juniors openly. Previously, recruits had to initiate the contact or it had to go through coaches. This makes it much more clear which prospects are on the radar for the various programs around the country and which 2024 recruits could end up as top priorities in the class. Oregon was one of the most active schools in the Pac-12 on the first day. Here's a rundown of the prospects Oregon's coaches either text messaged or called on the first day of the contact period.

Tomorrow also begins the first of three live evaluation periods in June for college coaches. The next couple weekends will feature several high school sanctioned events around the country making it a little different than the April and July live periods that feature almost exclusively opportunities to watch recruits with their club teams. The big event out west, Section 7, will be in Phoenix at State Farm Stadium the home of the Arizona Cardinals. There will be over 225 teams from 12 different states, including Oregon, represented at the event.

THOMAS GRAHAM JR

Cool article from CBS Sports about which second-year players may be a "Breakout Star" in the NFL this season.

Here is the portion on TG2:

After nearly an entire rookie season spent on the practice squad, the Bears finally took the advice of The Practice Squad Power Rankings ahead of their Week 15 game against Justin Jefferson and the Vikings and elevated Thomas Graham Jr.. It led to probably the most glorious outing in PSPR history.

Graham had seven tackles and three pass breakups, all of which were of the highlight-reel variety, in his NFL debut.

Remember, this is a defensive back who registered eight picks and 32 pass breakups across three seasons at Oregon. If you're that consistently productive at corner over three years in college, you know how to play the position. Throw the height/weight/speed metrics out the window. I'm serious. However, with Graham, his traits pop, too. He plays with the requisite aggression needed to be a smaller corner who lives on the perimeter. He never backs down from a challenge down the field and has phenomenal instincts in zone coverage that help him play faster than any combine drill would ever indicate.

Women’s 4x100 Team

They executed the race as well as you could ask for. . They finished 3rd, but it was very close between 2nd and 3rd. Jasmin Reed ran a fabulous third leg. The race was thrilling.

Jasmin Reed just ran her last race. She will graduate, and I don’t expect professional opportunities. What a race to go out on! I’m going to miss Jasmin. She always represented our university with dignity. Congratulation to our All American relay team!

UPDATE: Dillingham key in Oregon's pursuit of 5-star QB Dante Moore

Five-star quarterback Dante Moore has been very good this week at the OT7 passing tournament in Las Vegas playing for Cam Newton's C1N team. Moore is still sorting through his options and has an unofficial visit coming up to Texas A&M next weekend. For now he continues to focus on a group of schools that includes Oregon. There has been some differing opinions on where exactly Oregon stands, but after speaking with him it is clear the Ducks are right in the thick of this one. He speaks glowingly of his relationship with Kenny Dillingham, and that has been a big deal in his evaluation of the program. He admitted that travel got to him a little bit on his first trip out to Eugene, but after speaking with Dont'e Thornton and Seven McGee his concerns about the distance were eased.

He added that knowing NIL will be part of the process it would allow him to feel more comfortable to be far away from home seeing as he could get his family out to games. He was definitely thorough in our conversation and discussed all the reasons Oregon remains a big part of the process. Notre Dame recently added a commitment from a 2024 quarterback who could reclassify, and Moore said he was surprised by that. He is evaluating that option, and if he decides that Notre Dame is no longer the right spot it could open up the process quite a bit for the other schools in pursuit.

You can read the full update at the link up top.

“With Dillingham, he’s a genius, right? When he was at Memphis, when he was at Auburn, when he was at Florida State, going to Oregon, I respect his coaching and what he did with Jordan Travis and everybody. And, what he has done to improve them as great quarterbacks. I really respect him a lot. He’s a guy that flies to Detroit to comes and see me. We’ve been going through this for two, three years now, and I appreciate him a lot for what he’s done and it’s for sure standing out for me.”
