New transfer QB just entered

Malachi Nelson from USC only played 1 game and preserved his full eligibility 4 years to play 4. Could be someone the coaching staff should look at for the long-term QB development.

Would most likely have to sell him on sitting behind our current QB transfer and develop with the possibility of playing 3 straight just like we're selling to Moore.

Cayden Green rumors

I put this in Flock Talk tomorrow but wanted to address this here. For those that do not remembner, Green was an elite interior OL from last year's class. He started 5 games after coming in against Texas this season and earned Freshman All-American honors.

There has been a lot of talk over the last couple of days about the destination for Green. Somehow, an Oklahoma insider made up a fanciful tale about Dan Lanning staying at a University of Oklahoma campus hotel the same day in which Green was cleaning out his locker room.

It gets even shadier with the ‘thoughts’ from this person in which he ‘wonders’ whether Oregon is telling Green not to sign the forms for entry into the portal until they have an NIL package done and signed first thereby keeping other teams away from Green. The implication here is that the primary potential suitor – Missouri – has had zero contact with Green or anyone else and is completely blindsided by the Oregon move.

I think everyone knows that I have some pretty well placed sources at Lee’s Summitt in Missouri (a suburb of Kansas City) – this is a wild exaggeration of what is happening and not even remotely close to what went on. First, it should be mentioned – Green officially entered the transfer portal today. There is no current deal in place with Oregon – and the number this person is throwing around as to what Missouri (and presumably Oregon) are willing to put together in terms oof NIL for an offensive guard is a seven-figure deal.

Simply put: not true.

What is true? Dillon Gabriel knows Green very well and thinks he would be an excellent addition – and that the staff knew from Gabriel that Green was not entirely happy about where he is at and that he might enter the portal. Players talk and this was no big secret around Oklahoma. Did Oregon camp out to help Green pack as insinuated? Did they convince Green not to enter the portal until a deal was signed to freeze out Missouri? Are they going to pay an interior offensive lineman one million dollars per year?

The first and third questions are laughable at best. Dan Lanning and several other coaches were in Oklahoma earlier this week to visit Xadavien Sims and several future prospects as well. While he likely stayed in Norman, it was not at a campus Hotel. Does anyone really think Dan Lanning – who worked for both Nick Saban and Kirby Smart – is dumb enough to stay at a University of Oklahoma Campus hotel while tampering with a current University of Oklahoma student-athlete? That is just too stupid to even be considered. Does anyone think that the Ducks are going to pay an interior offensive lineman with five starts to his name even remotely close to the NIL package offered to Bo Nix during his final season in Eugene? Also, a laughable suggestion.

Considering Green entered the portal officially on Thursday and did not immediately announce for Oregon, this one is also a pure fabrication.

When news started percolating earlier this week that Green was likely to enter the portal, I checked around and everyone I had talked to thought he was headed to Missouri. That includes folks inside the Oregon program. I do think that Oregon stands a chance here, but we will see how it all turns out. I know Gabriel would love to have him protecting him along with the elite players Oregon has at tackle – but this one was not a done deal when Green entered the portal.

There is more going on behind the scenes that is wild conjecture as to why Green left, but let me just say unequivocally, Oregon did not help orchestrate anything.

10 Underclassmen on Oregon's roster with the most to gain ahead of the Fiesta Bowl

Junior All-American center Jackson Powers-Johnson is off to the NFL and isn't expected to play in the VRBO Fiesta Bowl against Liberty. It's a move that makes total sense for JPJ, and Oregon's program understands why. That decision opens the path for a very rare different starting combination up front along the offensive line.

Expect freshman offensive lineman Iapani Laloulu to get the start at center as he's replaced JPJ at times this season when the game got out of hand or when JPJ suffered an injury and needed to come out. The Fiesta Bowl will serve as the 247Sports Freshman All-American's first chance at making a case for the starting spot at the position in 2024. This season as a true freshman, Laloulu played 348 total snaps, the most of any non-starter on Oregon's roster this season by over 200 snaps.

Get all that?! Veteran Indiana offensive lineman Matthew Bedford committed to Colorado last week but today announced his has flipped his decision and is now set to play for the Ducks. He's made 39 starts over the course of his five-year career in Bloomington and has played every position except center at the college level. Bedford, who is from Memphis, played in 12 games this season and made 11 starts.

DSA Inside Read: Recapping the final weekend before Early Signing Day

Moore spent his weekend meeting with the staff as well as folks at Nike (like former Duck Mattrell McGraw) and getting to know Will Stein better. He loves what the offense at Oregon does because it really fits his style to a tee – point guard as quarterback.

The New Age of Signing Day

In following all the last minute decommits, flips, and portal adventures, along with some of Scott's comments it makes me wonder about the timing and level of information these players have about who is doing what. If a player decommits, is it because the staff has told him they are taking a portal guy at their position, or are they being told that by other teams or just from media conjecture? The secrecy thing is interesting as well. Delaying announcements until signing day by both high school and portal guys can limit the time other staffs can adjust and try to stop the flip or portal commit. once more, the integrity of coaches will be one on display-transparency with reccruits, or, subterfuge. I guess lying doesn't do much good since they can turn around and leave (in the case of portals) the next day. Signing day will be crazy from now on. I'm excited to see the combo of high school and free agents this staff will bring in this week. I think it will be the best overall group in school history.
