Kilkenny cries foul on the Knight $10M reporting...

Pat Kilkenny was on John Canzono's radio program today and addressed a few things dear to his heart.

On reporting that PK was going to pay a coach big bucks to come in:

“Things get said in the media that are out and out fabrications.”

On Helfrich

"It's not just about winning games it's about making sure your leader is someone you're proud of. We have that in spades."

But will he be back?

“I am not going to go down that path. I certainly wouldn't undermine Rob Mullens”

Next year...

"Next year I am absolutely confident we will be a lot better. Beyond that, someone else will deal with the details."

Taking Every Bullet

MH - "I'll take every bullet as long as those guys are battling their face off"

This is a commendable approach. It is also the approach many/most coaches take. The problem seems to be the generals are consistently marching the troops into an ambush. The guys, in a lot of cases, are in fact battling their faces off based on the information and coaching given to them. But talk to any soldier that has been in the thick of battle and they will tell you, if leadership is continuously putting them in position to lose the fight, moral will drop. When moral drops, so does effort.

MADDER THAN HELL II: Lack of Defensive Talent?!!

This contention about the lack of defensive talent is a CROCK. If you want a quick example of what the real problem is—from our best player on defense, (Troy Dye) then this article will help. It is an easy one to follow, (An Editorial) and read-it-there, and comment-here as usual.

Oregon 4th

Having watched the Ducks just once and the Heels twice, O doesn't look as good as no 5 UNC, without Brooks. Maybe when Altman tightens up his rotation they will look better, but for now, no 4 aint bad.
Baylor could be a test, and Maui sure as hell will be.Exciting times

I'm wondering what guys think is our best 8-9 man rotation after one game, excepting Brooks?

Lauren Rain Williams Visited This Weekend!!!!

UO had some big football and basketball visits this weekend but the most elite athlete of the recruits that visited probably was Lauren Rain Williams. Lauren is the nation's top ranked girl's high school sprinter. She has been considered by many recruiting analysts to be a USC lean. This was her final visit and a decision will be coming in the next day or two before the early signing deadline.

The (sad) nature of the business...

Here is my concession speech:

The offense is a year away and if (more likely when) someone replaces Helf & Co. next year they'll look like offensive geniuses.

The D has longer been on a downward slide. Helf saw this. It sounds like he tried to get Pendergast (and maybe some other top-notch DCs) but the Athletic department wouldn't open their wallet wide enough. Helf's future at Oregon was placed in the hands of another first-time "bargain" DC. Hoke couldn't right the ship in one year (maybe his fault, maybe not. We'll probably never know for sure).

Now, with the collapse of fan and booster support, at minimum we'll see major changes on D. More likely we'll see a break in Oregon's long coaching genealogy (i.e. hiring from within) and seek new blood from outside the program.

Hopefully P.J. Fleck (or whomever) gets an elite DC, or we'll turn on him, too. It's the (sad) nature of the business.
