Canzano Column

Quote from Canzano on Oregon Live/Oregonion:

"Oregon is a lousy football team. It's not particularly athletic or physical. There's no attention to detail. It's a sloppy mess in stretches. In fact, the only consistent in-game entertainment comes when opposing fans see these new-style Ducks tripping around the field for the first time and are blown away at how bad UO is.

Helfrich did his best after the game to deflect and sell the notion of the Oregon future. He reminded the media that he has a freshman quarterback and a young offensive line. He pointed out that some of the same USC players that thumped his team were mocked a year or two ago. And when asked about the glaring disparity of talent between the Ducks and Trojans, Helfrich said, "I assume you're talking about recruiting... that's always ongoing."

No coach. What's ongoing is the program slide. What's ongoing is the inability to tackle, to make plays, and to be disciplined. What's ongoing are the excuses, and the constant selling of a future nobody is sure will ever materialize. What's ongoing is the question about how Oregon got so bad, so fast.

You can find the rest of his column on Oregon Live website.

Pretty much says it all. I watched the first half and switched to my recorded Bama-LSU game. I just couldn't stand to watch our Ducks. Undisciplined. No Fire. Can't tackle. Can't block. A fundamentally unsound football team. I do not see much hope. I will watch the second half today to see if I missed hope for the future. For me, the only question is whether Stanford will run the ball more than 29 plays in a row on us.

Altman extended through 2022/23...

Nice little package that will basically lock Altman in at Oregon until 2023. New 7 year contract starting this season:

Base Salary:

2016 - 1.8 mil
2017 - 2.5 mil
2018 - 2.5 mil
2019 - 2.7 mil
2020 - 2.9 mil
2021 - 3.0 mil
2022 - 3.05 mil

Has some serious incentives built in too. He will receive $850,000 if he stays after this year (so his actual pay for 2016 min = 2.45 mil), an extra $200,000 the following year (2.7 mil), and $300,000 the following 5 years (2018 = 2.8 mil, 2019 = 3.0 mil, 2020 = 3.2 mil, 2021 = 3.3 mil, 2022 = 3.35 mil)

$50,000 bonus for APR 985 or above

up to $100,000 for winning Pac-12 regular season + tourney

up to $175,000 for making the Final 4

An additional $250,000 for winning the NC

So Max Bonus on DA would be $575,000 + retention on top of base

Contract overview

Rattled nerves, Duck football and tailgate

Okay all, a tough season, the last home game of the year is almost upon us. I know it has been tough; no one really expected such a precipitous and unceremonious fall from grace to the cellar in one fell swoop.

Once upon a time. football season was fun, wins were exciting, and losses a chance to commiserate together. It seems that we have lost a certain sense of oneness with nearly the same rapidity as the fall from the top of the mountain.

I propose a simple solution, join me for a beer Saturday. I will be in the Serbu Youth Center parking lot, space #223. It's just a game folks, let's try to enjoy it for its beauty, grace, dignity, spirit, integrity and passion and let's enjoy it together.

Army/West Point Recruiting and Roster Questions

Here's the Army FB com list.

Here's the BB team roster.

So how does it work? Pardon my ignorance, but are the some of the BB players prep players, and/or JV team members?

As for the FB com's, I guess these are non schollie players so they don't limit their overall roster?

Here's the FB team Roster, which lists HS players. So again, are these prep academy kids? Just curious.

A Great Interview

Not sure if this has already been shared on the board but, this is one of the better interviews I have seen. I'm not posting to stir the coals. Honestly, I didn't know much about this guy until he was mentioned on the boards. In doing my research, I came across this.

IF, we decide to go in a new direction after this season, this gentleman shoots to the top of my list. He's passionate, educated, knows his football, takes pride in thinking outside the box, and seems to be a very good communicator. I love his history and pedigree.

It's a long interview, but fantastic nonetheless. Apologies for not knowing how to link in the forums.

MAD AS HELL: Terrible Defensive Technique Taught at Oregon

This is not a feel-good article as FishDuck is pissed.

If you want to see a little about why our defense sucks, and why a change of defensive coaching has to happen—then you will appreciate the information in this editorial. For some of you....you may learn a little more football while you’re reading.

Read over there, and comment here please; I’ll be checking in through the day. Thanks to all Duck fans whether you agree with me or not.....

Rankings Track Recruiting Classes

This morning I heard a brief review by two track recruiting analyst.

Keeping in mind that this is just the end of round 1 in the track recruiting story, the analyst gave what they considered a progress report of what schools performed the best.

They broke recruiting into three groups..Bubble Schools, Mid Tier Schools, and Top Schools.
They defined bubble schools as those school that are only a top recruit or two alway from being in the running for the top. Mid Tier was defined as schools that are "in the hunt" to be the top class, but not quite there now. The top schools were their opinion of the one best recruiting class in the country.

Each analyst gave his pick for the three categories.

For Bubble Class one analyst picked Wisconsin. The other picked a tie between FSU and Alabama.

For Mid Tier one picked Texas and the other Texas Tech.

For the "top class" they didn't agree . One picked Oregon. The other said that he wasn't "so impressed" with the Oregon class, and emphatically ranked Stanford as the being the top class at this point in the recruiting cycle.

Hmmm, this could be an interesting competition before it's all over.
