According to Gregg Biggins, Elijah Gates had been an Oregon silent commit. He liked Helfrich and the old staff and committed to them. Gates told Biggins that he would have been going to Oregon had there not been a change in the staff.
According to Biggins, right after Gates announced for UCLA, UO assistant coach, Heyward, phoned him three times in five minutes. Biggins says that the UO staff is going to stay on him right up until NLI day. Apparently they really want Gates in a big way...or in a Biggins way!
