5* SF 2018 from TX Short Lists UO

From a recent TX Orange Blood article.

A product of Steele (Cibolo) High School, Liddell was more up-and-down than Johnson was, but the flashes of elite ability weren’t hard to find. At 6-7 with solid handle for his size, Liddell was at his best going downhill at defenses, utilizing his length to finish in or near the paint either in transition or attacking in the half-court. Away from the ball, Liddell showed some willingness to be an active cutter, making him tough to defend because of his size and finishing ability. The nation’s No. 22 overall prospect can shoot the ball better than he has thus far (43.4 percent from the floor; 66.2 percent at the free throw line; 1-of-16 from three-point range), and the potential for a very strong mid-range game was present. Defensively, he showed he could defend multiple positions, and rebounded well when he competed hard on the glass.

After releasing a final seven of Baylor, Arizona, Cal, SMU, UCLA, Oregon and Texas, don’t expect much from Liddell on the recruiting front until late July.

NCAA Regionals Day 3

The plot thickens. UO women were DQed from the 4x100 relay due to an exchange violation. Otherwise they easily won the heat, but the exchange between Stevens and Dunmore was outside of the exchange zone. Take away 10 points that I felt that they would score at nationals, in addition to the points that Hannah Cunliffe would have scored in the 100, and 200.

There is still a lot of good news, most notably that Chauquinn Cook finished 1st in the triple jump. Alaysha Johnson finished a strong 2nd in the 100h with a 12.68w. She has what it takes to finish anywhere from first to fourth at nationals. She has become consistently great. She and her roommate, Raevyn Rogers, are both exceptional talents and exceptional competitors.

Then, there's Deja Stevens. Oregon has produced several great women's 100/200 sprinters of late....Gardner, Prandini, Washington, Cunliffe, and Todd, but I think that Deja just might be Oregon's top women's sprinter of all time. She ran a 22.16w (2.5) 200 today. She ran a 10.89w (2.9) 100 yesterday. I believe that she could also be a world class 400m runner if that were her focus.

Who is the fastest Duck alive today? It has to be Kyree King. Today he ran a 20.22w (2.9) 200! Yesterday he ran a 9.98w (3.7) 100! I wouldn't rate him as high a Deja relative to his gender, but when is the last time Oregon had a sprinter who could run like Kyree? The men qualified a bunch of people for nationals. Without Ches a national title is not in the cards, but they just might put on a good show when they return to Hayward Field for the NCAA Championships.

NCAA Track West Regionals Day 2

The bad news is that Hannah Cunliffe didn't compete in the 100 or the 200. I presume that she is injured.

Big performances came from Alaysha Johnson, Deja Stevens, Ariana Washington, Marcus Chambers, Kyree King, and Demarcus Simpson. Stevens had the fastest time of the day in the 100 and 200, with11.89w (2.9), and 22.31w(2.1).

The Oregon women punched 3 tickets to the NCAA championships in the 400! Makenzie Dunmore went 51.75. Elexis Guster went 51.78. Ashante Horsley went 52.84.

Marcus Chambers punched his ticket with a 45.03. That was the third fastest time in the men's 400 in the West Regional.

Kyree king and Demarcus Simpson both punched tickets to the Championships in the 100. King went 9.98w (3.7). Simpson went 10.04w (3.7). They had the third and sixth fastest times in the West Regional. Kyree King also punched his ticket in the sixth fastest time at the meet in the 200 with 20.49w (2.7).

Alaysha Johnson had the second fastest 100h time of the day with 12.68w (2.6) First was 12.63w (4.3)....I'd have to do a wind conversion to see who was really faster. Johnson has become a real star in the 100h.

Several more tickets were punched, including Raevyn Rogers and Brooke Feldmeier in the 800, Sasha Wallace in the 100h, and Braxton Canady in the 110h.

There are more tickets punched. I or someone will get an article up from the AD website later.

Rolls Royce on Athlon cover

Maybe it is no coincidence that Oregon is ranked #21 in the pre-season poll:

New coach Willie Taggart inherits a promising core of young talent for his first season in Eugene. Although the Ducks are coming off their first losing record since 2004, a quick rebound should be in order. Quarterback Justin Herbert threw for 1,936 yards and 19 touchdowns as a true freshman last fall and is surrounded by a strong supporting cast that features running back Royce Freeman and receivers Darren Carrington and Charles Nelson. The Ducks also went with a youth movement in the trenches last season and this unit is slated to return four starters from the final two-deep. Additionally, left tackle Tyrell Crosby returns after missing nearly all of 2016 due to injury. Scoring points won’t be a problem for Taggart’s team, but the defense needs to take a step forward if Oregon wants to challenge Stanford or Washington in the Pac-12 North. The good news? Taggart hired standout coordinator Jim Leavitt away from Colorado and has plenty of experience at all three levels of the defense returning for 2017. Sophomore linebacker Troy Dye is one of the Pac-12's rising stars on defense, and the addition of Clemson graduate transfer Scott Pagano provides a boost up front. The Ducks also catch a break in scheduling by missing USC in crossover play, while Washington State and Utah visit Eugene.

Ist Day of NCAA T&F West Regionals

http://www.goducks.com/news/2017/5/25/track-and-field-four-earn-ncaa-bids-on-first-day.aspx

Demarcus Simpson who was a hopeful for points in the Long Jump fouled out and will not be competing in the long jump at the NCAA Championships in Eugene . However, he qualified for the West Regional finals in the 100 with a time of 9.94w. That is a 4.0 wind, but it is still outstanding. Kyree King also qualified for the finals wth a 10.06w...4.2 wind. Simpson's time was the 2nd fastest time of the day.

I did the wind conversion on Simpsons 100m. It equates to a 10.11 were it wind legal.
