The plot thickens. UO women were DQed from the 4x100 relay due to an exchange violation. Otherwise they easily won the heat, but the exchange between Stevens and Dunmore was outside of the exchange zone. Take away 10 points that I felt that they would score at nationals, in addition to the points that Hannah Cunliffe would have scored in the 100, and 200.
There is still a lot of good news, most notably that Chauquinn Cook finished 1st in the triple jump. Alaysha Johnson finished a strong 2nd in the 100h with a 12.68w. She has what it takes to finish anywhere from first to fourth at nationals. She has become consistently great. She and her roommate, Raevyn Rogers, are both exceptional talents and exceptional competitors.
Then, there's Deja Stevens. Oregon has produced several great women's 100/200 sprinters of late....Gardner, Prandini, Washington, Cunliffe, and Todd, but I think that Deja just might be Oregon's top women's sprinter of all time. She ran a 22.16w (2.5) 200 today. She ran a 10.89w (2.9) 100 yesterday. I believe that she could also be a world class 400m runner if that were her focus.
Who is the fastest Duck alive today? It has to be Kyree King. Today he ran a 20.22w (2.9) 200! Yesterday he ran a 9.98w (3.7) 100! I wouldn't rate him as high a Deja relative to his gender, but when is the last time Oregon had a sprinter who could run like Kyree? The men qualified a bunch of people for nationals. Without Ches a national title is not in the cards, but they just might put on a good show when they return to Hayward Field for the NCAA Championships.
