Top 6: 4-star, Rivals100 safety Dakaari Nelson

Selma, Alabama safety prospect Dakaari Nelson has a couple dozen offers at this point in the process and now he's ready to start focusing on a smaller group. Oregon offered the 79th-ranked prospect in the 2023 class last month and has quickly moved into his top group. The Ducks have are joined by Clemson, Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky and Penn State on his short list. Clemson has gained a good amount of buzz with him, but he's not pushing to make an early commitment at this stage. His plan has been to take some official visits this summer before using some of his official visits on trips during the season.

He doesn't have a full updated junior highlight tape posted so here are clips from one of his games last season plus his full sophomore highlight film.

Duck T&F Men Soar To #2 in NCAA

In a dramatic turn of events, the men now rank second nationally according to the Chile Form Chart. They are really coming on, but they need to keep everybody healthy.

The women, on the other hand, aren't even in the top 30. The women have a lot of athletes that are close to cracking into scoring position. The women's roster is deep. The men do not have that same kind of depth as the women. The NCAA Championships will be in Eugene. A lot can happen between now and then. Credit great coaching for the improvement and development of the team's athletes.

Duck baseball vs Wash. St. series

This series started in crazy fashion as the ducks came from behind to win in the 10th 8-7. Ducks were down 6-0 by the 4th, 7-0 after the 5th as the cougars chased ducks starter RJ Gordon early. I watched as the ducks finally started making progress on the cougars starter getting a couple runs back in the later innings but were down 7-2 in the 9th when they erupted for 5 runs to tie it! Ducks bullpen did well locking the cougars down in the final 5 frames. This would have been a bad loss so I’m glad the ducks were able to get their focus back and win this one. Game 2 tomorrow 3, local time

Rivals250 all-purpose back Cameron Cook has released his top six and the Ducks are one of two Pac-12 teams to make the cut along with Cal. Texas, TCU, Penn State and Kansas State are the other programs remaining on his list. Cook recently visited Oregon and the Ducks have emerged as one of the top contenders in his recruitment with Eugene beginning to feel like his likely landing spot. USC, Ole Miss and Cincinnati are some of the notable omissions from his short list.

Top 7: 2023 TE Jackson Bowers

High three-star 2023 tight end Jackson Bowers from Mountain View HS in Mesa, Arizona has released his top seven after another recent string of visits. Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss and BYU are the schools still in the running for the 6-foot-5 recruit. He is now expected to move into the process of selecting his five official visits before eventually making a decision.

LSU, Baylor, Michigan State, Arizona State, Utah and West Virginia are some of the notable programs that have offered Bowers but did not make the cut.

Solid spring game today...

I was very impressed with the spring game today. I thought both sides played well particularly for April.

A few notes...

  • Loved the fact Lanning allowed the offense to open up. This will not be a ground and pound situation we have seen since the Chip Kelly era
  • DJ Johnson has a chance to be really good on the DL. I realize the OL was split squad but still, the Predator made many plays
  • Chase Cota is going to be a big time help on for the offense
  • Seven McGee is looking outstanding. I've loved him long long time so am very happy he is getting to show his wares now
  • Dan Lanning was a good hire
  • I'm hoping the RB's get a chance to shine more during the season. I like a balanced attack so we need to be able to run the ball
  • Glad the Ducks got the missed FG's out of the way now
  • The DB mix should be new and interesting. Guys like JJ Greenfield showed out.
  • The QB situation... very interesting. Bo Nix looked good mostly, but sometimes bad. Ty Thompson clearly can be excellent, but has work to do. Butterfield had some solid moments himself
  • Ducks need the LB group to be healthy for the season to be a great one
  • Hoping the OL looks better once it's not split squad. They have every opportunity to be good, but we need to see it.
Cheers!

Return of an explosive offense in Eugene?

Gabriel examines the Oregon offense under new OC Kenny Dillingham that brought back some memories of the past with its explosive plays, led by quarterback Bo Nix, during Saturday's spring game.
