TRAAACK

Kiley McCarthy 800m out of Carlsbad High school (San Diego Area)

She ran her PR of 2:08.85 in her sophomore season that was tied for the 7th fastest 800m time in California. She didn't do as well in her junior year.. Her best time was 2:11.29. which put her 15th best among California high school girls. This might indicate an injury and much more potential for a good senior season.(but I don't know the situation)

Congratulations Kiley and Welcome to Track Town!

Fifth Quarter: Stanford

Well, with the last home game of the 2016 season in the books, today we look back at the Stanford game in our Fifth Quarter series. Read close, and read through to the end - there is a quote most apropos at the end, and plenty of meat between the opening reference to Rimbaud's "A Season in Hell" and that closing quote by Maya Angelou.

Have a wonderful Sunday all!

Fifth Quarter: Stanford

Meanwhile...

Hats off to Frost and Chinander who've turned around UCF much quicker than I thought. 0-12 last year and 6-4 already this year. Speaking of a rant of sorts...when we selected Ron Aiken I was hoping for a young kid named Andy Avalos to take the DL spot. He in turn has done wonders at Boise State and is now their DC and doing a pretty decent job there. Oh, how I wish Orlando would have been the guy before Pellum and that we would have picked up Andy too. Alas, I am just a guy on a couch typing on a computer...what do I know! :)

Today's game

This is the last home game of the season. It's the last time our seniors will ever run out of the tunnel, following that big ol' Harley onto the field at Autzen. It's a very special day for them.

I hope our fans - and, I think that includes all of us on this board - remember THAT aspect and give them all the encouragement, all the support and all the energy we can find within ourselves.

I don't care if you love the coaches, think they're ignorant boobs that shouldn't be allowed around butter knives, or anywhere in between. Today is NOT about them...it's about the guys in those uniforms who work HARD every day and walk off the field - win or lose - bruised and battered. It's about the guys who bust their tails for YEARS because they love the sport AND they care so much for the school (and people) they represent.

We owe them. We owe them a LOT for all the smiles, laughter, pride and joy they've given us. All they ask in return is that we recognize their efforts and be DUCKS as much as they are.

Today should be a day when the crowd makes the Arizona State crowd look like meditation time at the city library. Today should be a day when EVERY player is cheered at introduction, when they go onto the field and when they leave it. Today should be a day when we are DUCKS and that is MUCH more important than being "right" about whether or not some person in a corner office still occupies it next March.

Go to the game if you can. Scream and holler and ENJOY. It's what those guys work for every day. It's a small price that we pay for all that goes into our love of the Ducks. Pay it willingly, happily and with no thought of "but, MH..." . Pay it for the Seniors. Pay it for the walkons. Pay it for the people who have given US so much.

Go Ducks!!

All three hoops commits sign...

EUGENE, Ore. – Head coach Dana Altman has landed his second-straight top-12 recruiting class with the signing of three high school players to National Letters of Intent. The Ducks announced on Friday that Victory Bailey Jr., Troy Brown, Jr., and Abu Kigab have signed with the University.

The trio is ranked as the No. 8 class in the nation by ESPN.

“We’re excited about bringing another talented group of recruits into our program,” said Altman. “I think our fans will enjoy watching Abu, Victor and Troy. Canzano Column

Quote from Canzano on Oregon Live/Oregonion:

"Oregon is a lousy football team. It's not particularly athletic or physical. There's no attention to detail. It's a sloppy mess in stretches. In fact, the only consistent in-game entertainment comes when opposing fans see these new-style Ducks tripping around the field for the first time and are blown away at how bad UO is.

Helfrich did his best after the game to deflect and sell the notion of the Oregon future. He reminded the media that he has a freshman quarterback and a young offensive line. He pointed out that some of the same USC players that thumped his team were mocked a year or two ago. And when asked about the glaring disparity of talent between the Ducks and Trojans, Helfrich said, "I assume you're talking about recruiting... that's always ongoing."

No coach. What's ongoing is the program slide. What's ongoing is the inability to tackle, to make plays, and to be disciplined. What's ongoing are the excuses, and the constant selling of a future nobody is sure will ever materialize. What's ongoing is the question about how Oregon got so bad, so fast.

You can find the rest of his column on Oregon Live website.

Pretty much says it all. I watched the first half and switched to my recorded Bama-LSU game. I just couldn't stand to watch our Ducks. Undisciplined. No Fire. Can't tackle. Can't block. A fundamentally unsound football team. I do not see much hope. I will watch the second half today to see if I missed hope for the future. For me, the only question is whether Stanford will run the ball more than 29 plays in a row on us.

Altman extended through 2022/23...

Nice little package that will basically lock Altman in at Oregon until 2023. New 7 year contract starting this season:

Base Salary:

2016 - 1.8 mil
2017 - 2.5 mil
2018 - 2.5 mil
2019 - 2.7 mil
2020 - 2.9 mil
2021 - 3.0 mil
2022 - 3.05 mil

Has some serious incentives built in too. He will receive $850,000 if he stays after this year (so his actual pay for 2016 min = 2.45 mil), an extra $200,000 the following year (2.7 mil), and $300,000 the following 5 years (2018 = 2.8 mil, 2019 = 3.0 mil, 2020 = 3.2 mil, 2021 = 3.3 mil, 2022 = 3.35 mil)

$50,000 bonus for APR 985 or above

up to $100,000 for winning Pac-12 regular season + tourney

up to $175,000 for making the Final 4

An additional $250,000 for winning the NC

So Max Bonus on DA would be $575,000 + retention on top of base

Contract overview

Rattled nerves, Duck football and tailgate

Okay all, a tough season, the last home game of the year is almost upon us. I know it has been tough; no one really expected such a precipitous and unceremonious fall from grace to the cellar in one fell swoop.

Once upon a time. football season was fun, wins were exciting, and losses a chance to commiserate together. It seems that we have lost a certain sense of oneness with nearly the same rapidity as the fall from the top of the mountain.

I propose a simple solution, join me for a beer Saturday. I will be in the Serbu Youth Center parking lot, space #223. It's just a game folks, let's try to enjoy it for its beauty, grace, dignity, spirit, integrity and passion and let's enjoy it together.
