Although the Oregon track team is competing beneath expectations, two of the greatest track and field athletes in school history will be competing for an NCAA event championship today. The triple jump starts at 6:20 PM. The 100 will be run at 6:52 PM. The hopes and pride of Oregon track fans ride on these two athletes. May the “Hayward Magic” be with them. Go Ducks!

DE Kelze Howard replaces planned Oregon OV with Oregon State this weekend

I interviewed three-star DE Kelze Howard earlier this week and as of that point he was still hoping to take an official visit to Oregon this weekend, as planned, but he said he hadn't been getting a response from the coaching staff. Now he's going to Oregon State instead. Sounds like the Ducks chose to move on from him.

Ducks women's softball could've been

I live in Honolulu and I was listening to local radio and this guy who covered Oahu high school sports was talking about Oklahoma vs Texas. He mentioned that Mike White was formerly at Oregon and was one of the first coaches/schools to recruit Jocelyn Alo. Then he says she went to commit to him and the Ducks, and he said sorry but we've gone in a different direction. She could've been a Duck. Who knows what could've happened 🤷‍♂️

Five-star 2024 WR Ryan Wingo talks recent Oregon visit, overall recruitment

There is a big national 7v7 tournament taking place in Las Vegas right now (Thursday-Sunday). In addition to the Rivals team being there, we have two guys on site as well. They're planning to talk to Jaden Rashada and Dante Moore today. Jurrion Dickey is also among the notable players competing and we're working on something with him as well.

Meanwhile, Rivals analyst Nick Harris talked to 2024 five-star WR Ryan Wingo last night:

Micah Williams … will he leave or stay?

The last time Oregon men won the NCAA 100m championship was in 1964 by Harry Jerome. Micah Williams is currently the favorite to win the event in the upcoming NCAA Championships this week at Hayward Field. Although he is the favorite, his victory is by no means certain. The field is deep and talented.

Here is an excerpt from the Eugene Register Guard regarding the question of if this will be Micah’s last chance to win the NCAA Championship in the 100m? :

……Will this week be his last chance to do so? Williams will no doubt have the opportunity to turn professional this summer. Whether he takes it or not remains to be seen.

“I’m not sure,” Williams said. “We’ll see. Ultimately, I love being at Oregon, so we’ll go over the factors with me and my family and my parents … but I’ve already registered for my classes for next year so I’m not really focused on that right now.”

Oregon a possible OV spot for Florida four-star SDE Rueben Bain Jr.

Bain updates his recruiting covering his official to Oklahoma and previews his Auburn and Alabama officials while listing contenders for possible OVs this fall on Rivals:

Rivals analysts give their thoughts on Jaden Rashada

Ole Miss taking on Rashada's brother, JUCO transfer Roman Rashada, has raised some questions about what that means for the QB. The Rivals analysts don't seem to think he will follow his brother to Ole Miss.

Adam Friedman thinks it's still Oregon and Miami at the top, with Florida, Texas A&M and LSU right behind them.

Meanwhile, Adam Gorney thinks Florida leads:

We'll know soon enough ...

NCAA Track TV coverage

Wednesday on ESPN 2. 4:30 to 8:00 Men.
The women and men will alternate days.
So the women will be Thursday and Saturday. The men Wednesday and Friday.

I am now feeling fine… but I’ll be watching from the couch. Don’t worry about me! I’ll
be comfortable and having a blast. Rain is predicted for Friday, and Saturday. but I’ll be comfortable in the best climate in the world, Santa Cruz CA! So, although I love Hayward Field, life isn’t so bad after all.
Don’t expect a team trophy. Do expect a great meet with Oregon winning some events and dazzling the Hayward faithful.

I predict that the women will do better than expected. The men have two of the greatest track athletes in Oregon’s illustrious track history. They may not win a team trophy, but we’ll have a lot to feel good about! Let’s go ducks!!!

WATCH: PG Jackson Shelstad talks Oregon commitment

So I spent the last few days in Las Vegas at the Pangos All-American Camp watching most of the top basketball prospects in the country. Oregon commit Jackson Shelstad had a really strong few days and showcased all the elements to his game. It really is striking how much he reminds me (and others there) of Payton Pritchard. He is really comfortable out on the floor and plays with a nice aggressiveness. His shot was really falling this week and he was attacking the basket. He ended up making it to the camp's top-30 all-star game based on what he showed this week.

I took some time to talk with him about a variety of topics including his commitment to the in-state Ducks, his relationship with the coaches and fellow commit Mookie Cook plus his thoughts on Oregon's pursuit of five-star forward KJ Evans. You can hear all his thoughts on those topics plus get a glimpse of some game clips that I shot this week. I will have a full highlight package later on.
