Since the thread on "expectations" centered on the OL performance...I was hoping others would chime in on their thoughts of the past few years...and on Greatwood.

I thought last year's OL performance was subpar. Johnstone really didn't regain his form until late in the year and the Center position was the worst we've had in a long time...maybe ever.

Hunt and Crosby did well...but the other OG spot had youngsters that struggled a bit.

I think this was one of Greatwood's weaker units. I hope he re-incorporates some of the methodology Chip had asked of them in the past to get them back up to form.

So what did you guys think?
And did Greatwood change things after Chip left? Did that play a role in the "demise" of the OL over the past few years?

I know people are sick of hearing about Chip...but his coaching strategy was unique and he certainly got the most out of his players.

Scott Frost laid some insights on USA Today in this article.

Q: What is it like recruiting, particularly being located in that geographic area, compared to the recruiting you've done over the past six or seven years?

A: Every kid in the country wanted to come to Oregon. They saw how we played, they saw the facilities, they saw the uniforms, the winning. Everybody was interested in Oregon. I'm telling recruits down here they don't have to go 3,000 miles away to get that anymore, Oregon just came to them.

It's hard in those places because we're just not in close proximity, Oregon wasn't and isn't in close proximity to the fertile recruiting ground. At the end of the day, recruits have to decide to leave southern California, or Georgia, or Florida, or Texas, where there's some other pretty good schools, and go all the way to Eugene.

It's great being in a place where those kids that want to stay close can stay here, not to mention it's a lot easier to get kids to visit our campus unofficially, there's a lot more kids here to choose from.

One of the things that drew me to the job is I knew I could run a version of our offense that was practically identical to Oregon's because we can recruit that type of player here. I don't think you could run Oregon's offense at Wisconsin; I don't know if you would get enough guys that can run well enough to do it. In Orlando, Florida, there's fast guys in high schools in every direction in close proximity that are already running systems in high school that are similar to this and should want to play in it.

Ofodile's dad just got hired by Missouri as the director of recruiting.

No smoke whatsoever, just thought it was interesting. Would be a total bummer if he eventually wanted a reunion.

Maybe I missed this earlier in the year, but I don't recall even hearing anything about it. A $240,000 settlement to cover coaches bonuses? Seems odd they would have filed a lawsuit.

I caught up with Graham again to get some details about where Oregon stands and where he plans to take his OV's.

Let me start by saying I'm trying really hard to be optimistic...but, also realistic. I am sure many will hate that! Let's try to have a discussion...

I look at this to be a challenging year. Starts in the trenches and I think we're a year away. Three new starters on the offensive line and several RS freshmen in the two deep. New starting QB. Awesome running backs and receivers. But those skill players are only as good as the holes to run through and time to throw. I think we'll look great against some teams and struggle against good defenses. Guys on the d-line who may be a year away and a new system. LB's mostly unproven.

Schedule ends tough -except for the Beavers. ASU; USC; Stanford; Utah. And I think we lose at least one game we should win. All in all, I think 8-4. Just can't see winning the north or the conference.

Saw this on free content, another site. Maybe where he should have been all along? Can't say enough good things about Kelly and his loyalty to Oregon. It might take some time, but Alex could be a really good OG with time. I never felt like he had the "quicks" to play D, and the same might be said for another 49R/Duck who coulda been a great OL, good DL.

Is Short on Duck's radar, or has he visited lately. Gorney thinks decommiting from UCLA may have something to do with Oregon interest.
