The New Normal

I really don't think this is the time to preach "the Oregon way", that it is the holy writ that some maddeningly insist that somehow we sparkle with a hard , gem like glow by rewarding time served by elevating it to it's level of incompetence. I thought that was the purview of entrenched bureaucracy.

Here at Oregon we view it with resignation, that it is something to cherish...that it's cruel to let coaches go because they've served loyally for ages....even if they've proven his, their , inability to manage the job or recruit enough competent athletes to get the job done. Enough.

I'd like a show of hands of those who felt it lost when Adams went down. It was our season opening redux. And while it's on Pellum....again....to buck up and win one when the offense is on vacation, its on Helfrich for not developing a scintilla of a backup quarterback who doesn't resemble a deer in the headlights or a center who can't hike the ball above grass level.

The level of coaching incompetence in the second half merits a firing squad. The sad thing about it was its sheer predictability. When we have no offense....we lose.

And if we enter next year with all of the same faces who disgraced us tonight, because it's "the Oregon way", well then we know the way forward will be one hell of a lot different than the one we've become addicted to.

Oregon vs. TCU: Official game thread...

We're here in the booth at the Alamo Dome. Went down on the field for awhile watching the specialists warm up. Ducks seem pretty loose and it seemed the TCU guys were kind of tight. I think this favors Oregon but who knows.

Chatted with Coach Lubick for a bit and told him we know he is going to do a great job calling today's offense. I truly believe that.

Coach Neal played catch with us for a bit. He has a pretty good arm!

Coach Greatwood told me he thought the team had an "outstanding week of practice". I like how this is shaping up so far.

Kickoff is about 75 minutes away. We will add some of our photos to this thread before the game.

Please... A little perspective

TCU had the advantage of playing with their 2nd string QB who only got the job 2 days before the game. Also, TCU was missing some starting offensive linemen and a wide receiver. We had our normal starting defense which wasn't ranked better than 100 in almost all categories that count.

So before anyone spouts off about "Fire Pellum" just think about that.

Personally wishing TCU was at full strength......

at least with Boykin and Doctson. My reasoning is this is now a no win situation around the country. We win and it's because those two didn't play, we lose and we look ridiculous. It would kind of be like losing to a team playing their 3rd string Q.B. Oh snap we've been there....LOL.

I understand the most important thing is a win and in the long run who cares how you got it......just sharing my initial thoughts. I also realize it really isn't important what the rest of the country thinks but I just happen to enjoy good press personally....:)

Anybody else see it this way or am I alone on an island??

GO DUCKS!

Going into the recruiting home stretch the Ducks have 19 commits plus (yet another!) QB graduate transfer. Some classes total 20 scholarships but of course the math is always fuzzy because of unknown attrition, etc.

How many more do you think will be Ducks between now and signing day?

LUBICK OC?????

Is this really true? If so I am really disappointed. Coach H had the chance to hire tons of people and the best one is Lubick? Never been an OC and never coached QB's which is a bigger concern. I just feel Oregon Football is doing things the easy want not innovative enough and we are eroding not getting better as we have done for years. The guy from MSU seemed like a GREAT fit and Lubick wasn't going anywhere. Maybe that guy can come in as QB coach? All our coaches only have experience or their highest lever of experience at Oregon and I just don't think that makes sense. Look at other schools wanting to contend for titles they don't hire Coordinators who have never been coordinators. Last year we were the ONLY School in D 1 who's OC DC and Head Coach had never had that job anywhere else. I would love to hear feedback about this but the "Oregon Way" of hiring from within is old. We have outgrown that. Find the smartest best guy for the job. I bet Costa will be QB coach who again has NEVER had that job anywhere. Just seems lazy to me. Please tell me I'm wrong but I will be tough to sell on that.
