I really don't think this is the time to preach "the Oregon way", that it is the holy writ that some maddeningly insist that somehow we sparkle with a hard , gem like glow by rewarding time served by elevating it to it's level of incompetence. I thought that was the purview of entrenched bureaucracy.
Here at Oregon we view it with resignation, that it is something to cherish...that it's cruel to let coaches go because they've served loyally for ages....even if they've proven his, their , inability to manage the job or recruit enough competent athletes to get the job done. Enough.
I'd like a show of hands of those who felt it lost when Adams went down. It was our season opening redux. And while it's on Pellum....again....to buck up and win one when the offense is on vacation, its on Helfrich for not developing a scintilla of a backup quarterback who doesn't resemble a deer in the headlights or a center who can't hike the ball above grass level.
The level of coaching incompetence in the second half merits a firing squad. The sad thing about it was its sheer predictability. When we have no offense....we lose.
And if we enter next year with all of the same faces who disgraced us tonight, because it's "the Oregon way", well then we know the way forward will be one hell of a lot different than the one we've become addicted to.
