Vegas likes us

+3 in corn-vallis.

I'm not very bright to begin with, but that seems like pick'em to me.

I like Oregon, a lot, in this one.

This team feels like the teams of the last 10 years (not counting last year, so 9 of some combination of the last 10)...

We get our hearts broken once this year (twice max), but with solid QB play, we're in every game... No more MSU almost's, WAZZU over times, Utah what-what-what-what-what....

This weekend will tell us a lot, about a lot. Offense is good, maybe great. Defense is young, could be above average, possibly average.

We've traditionally been pretty good with an average to above average defense, or whatever

Question on Helfrich and slow starts . . .

I have no stats and have done no research on this, but after Saturday's somewhat rough outing for our Ducks I had this random thought cross my mind: it seems like since Helfrich took over, the Ducks have been slow out of the gate for the season but come mid to late season we are humming on all cylinders vs. when Chip was running the show, minus '09, we were smooth and crisp and flying high out of the gate but come mid to late season we always seemed to lose that crispness. My perception is that towards the end of the season with Chip's teams I don't really remember us playing our best football whereas with Helfrich it seems like we have been, again, minus the 2nd half of the Alamo Bowl.

I'm just curious if anybody else has thought that or if maybe I'm just completely off base? Again, it was just a gut feeling I had so I figured I would throw it out there.

Virginia Tailgate

Greetings DSA Subscribers and members,

Once again we are pleased to bring you our version of the tailgate experience!

Thanks to the generosity of one of our members, we are pleased to be able to bring the tailgate experience into the Autzen parking lot for some selected games this season! We are lucky enough for the second to be one of those games will be the opener.

What: DSA Tailgate
Where: Autzen East parking, space 6543 (see picture below)
When: Four hours prior to kickoff (3:30pm-7:30pm game 2)

As always, we will have food, beverages, and a 45" television to watch other games and enjoy the atmosphere of Autzen Stadium.

If you are unsure of where we are, or need guided in, call me that morning at 503-807-9543

For this game, we will have handcrafted bacon-burgers and and some of the reliable like hot dogs. Because I have changed a lot of my own diet, I will likely have some other options - i.e. I have a killer black bean hummus that I make which I will have with me to use as a spread or dip!

Donations are welcome and encouraged to cover the cost of food/beverage/etc. In lieu of cash, feel free to bring foods and beverages should you choose to do so.

I always tend to have a couple varieties of micro-brews along with a cola, diet cola, lemon-lime type and root beer for the non-alcoholic. I will also bring a blender with the capacity for 'frothy' drinks!

We are hoping to bring back the excitement of DSA Tailgates with a space inside the stadium, please join us!

Titans name Mariota one of their captains...

Pretty natural for the QB to be a captain but this was a vote of the teammates.

Mariota was named a captain late last season, but he suffered a knee injury and missed several games. Casey also served as a captain in 2014 and 2015, and Orakpo was a captain in 2015.

“I don’t think (being a captain is) an automatic because you’re the quarterback,’’ Mularkey said of Mariota. ”I believe it is because you’ve earned it, and (Marcus) has done everything to earn that right to be voted by his teammates. In most cases quarterbacks (are captains), but I don’t think it’s a given. He represents everything we stand for and I think that is why this team voted him one of the offensive captains.”
