Oregon Track Athletes Breaking Records Today!!

The Oregon Athletes made an amazing showing at Mt Sac today, but none more so than the sizzling women's sprinters. For starters, a team of Dunmore, Stevens, Washington and Cunliffe broke their own all-time collegiate 4 X 100 record with an eye-popping 42.12 performance. Stevens and Washington had a busy afternoon, tripling back in the 100 and 200 meters where they went 11.00/22.31 and 11.06/22.93 respectively (Personal Bests are becoming blase with these two).

How about the incomparable Senior, Raevyn Rogers....she ran a world's best 1.59.10 for this year. In the process she bested former Duck, Laura Roesler, who had to be ecstatic with her own 1.59.54.

The men weren't totally overshadowed, as senior Marcus Chambers showed that he is back to Olympic form with an early season 45.29 in the 400 meters. Chambers was also part of a newly emerging 4 X 100 team, that includes Demarcus Simpson and Kyree King. They set a new Oregon school record in 39.18. I know that I'm leaving out some other outstanding marks, but cannot finish this without pointing out that Cole Walsh PR'd today with his first 18 foot vault. The coaches have to be excited as both the men's and women's teams came to play today, and in USC's backyard.

Gaelin Elmore - Grad Transfer DE talks Oregon offer

Got hold of Elmore last night for an update on his recruiting. Right now it's kind of all up in the air - but don't fret about this being any indication about Pagano - it's not.

Kid has an incredibly interesting story and would be a great guy in the locker room.

I put a tidbit about winning the Wilma Rudolph Award - here is the full text from the award:

Minnesota junior defensive lineman Gaelin Elmore received the Wilma Rudolph Student Athlete Achievement Award on June 11 at the 2016 National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) Convention Awards Luncheon. The event was held at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas, and Elmore was one of five student-athletes who will receive the award.

The Wilma Rudolph Student-Athlete Achievement Award honors student athletes who have overcome great personal, academic, and/or emotional odds to achieve academic success while participating in intercollegiate athletics.

Joining Elmore, who was named Academic All-Big Ten as a sophomore, in receiving the award this year were Carl Appleton (Lewis and Clark College), Imani Boyette (Texas), Nicole Dennion (Elon University) and Bailey Wind (Tennessee).

The N4A described Elmore’s journey this way:

“By the age of five, Elmore had faced more hardships than the average person may face in a lifetime. After being homeless multiple times, separated from his siblings, observing drug-addicted parents, and forced to run away from foster homes due to abuse, Elmore found an outlet by playing sports. For his entire childhood, Elmore bounced from one foster home to the next before being reunited with his father for only a short time before drug-addition once again interfered. Thankfully, Elmore’s high school football coach stepped in and gave him a place to live and a chance to do something meaningful with his life. With his coach’s help, Elmore was able to receive a full scholarship to play football at the University of Minnesota, a place with a support system that he now considers to be family.”

Oregon Track Athletes Shining at Mt Sac Relays

The Outdoor track and field season is just getting started, but Oregon athletes are already showing up big. Last night at Mt. Sac, Freshman, Katie Rainsberger ran a 4.13.25 1500 meters. This is the top NCAA time in the nation so far this season. Meanwhile, cross town at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Sam Prakel ran his 1500 meter race in 3:40.87 (roughly a 3:58 mile). Meanwhile, perhaps even more impressive was Freshman, Austin Tamagno's 3:41.33 in the same race (a nearly 3 second improvement on his lifetime best). Not to be outdone, on the women's side, Australian Sophomore, Jessica Hull set a new PR in 4:17.76.

Going back to Mt. Sac, the sprinters did their part as well. Kyree King won the collegiate open in both the 100 meters (10.27) and 200 meters (20.78). Another freshman, Makenzie Dunmore continued to show why Oregon recruited her, as she won her 200 meter race, while setting a PR of 23.24. This Golden Age of Oregon track just seems to be getting shinier and shinier.

"IF" I had to guess at our Hoops Roster next year:

G - Payton Pritchard - (Soph.)
G - Elijah Brown - (R.Sr. - Grad Transfer, UNM) - Not done, but looks good!
W - Troy Brown - (Frosh)
F - MJ Cage - (R.Frosh.)
P - Brandon McCoy - (Frosh)

Bench:
F/P - Simi Shittu - (Frosh) - Could start over Cage, but Cage is GOOD!!!! (IF he gets reclassification)
W/F - Keith Smith - (Soph.)
W/F - Paul White - (R.Jr.)
G/W - VJ Bailey - (Frosh)
W/F - Abu Kigab - (Frosh)
F/P - Kenny Wooten - (Frosh)
- P - Kavell Bigby-Williams - (Sr.) (Listed last due to Redshirt, not sure that happens entirely tho!)
F/W - Isaiah Mike (Soph.) Transfer from Duquesne University, Canadian Pipeline. Will have to Redshirt due to Transfer rules.

Best guess.
