Publisher Note

I did this a lot early after taking over - and then football season came and there was not much additional information to share but wanted to add some thoughts about our progress.

- One of the things I really wanted to do was make sure we upped our content and I think we did a prertty good job of that during the season. While I would have liked to keep better pace on the basketball games, we have still worked to bring you at the very least a recap of every game.

- The thing I wanted to do with a person to come in an be the 'growth' partner up front fell through before we got started and then with the season, it all kind of took a backseat to getting as much content as possible. So I added Lee to get some recruiting articles going while I tried to focus on team stuff. The thing is, though, that writers cost money and we don't have a ton to hand out right now - at least not the amount it would take to create growth strictly from more content.

- I decided to start some low level advertising to get some more people to at least come check out our site and peruse the articles, boards, etc. Because it is actually cheaper to get some advertising (and easier to see results), the plan is to get some generic growth and then work to get another writer on board. I recognize that the weakness here is that we need to have content - but even J-School interns are not free anymore so we are in the chicken and egg conundrum (scientiifically speaking, there is no conundrum with which came first, but a valid point for this context!): recruiting content gets more people to pay subscription fees, but we need those additional subscription fees to pay the writer. Hence - advertising. I can use small organic advertising campaigns to test the market and see what we can do for a lot less than a writer would cost me.

- On the same front, I have been doing a lot of freebie articles and will start making more of those premium. I wanted to do some things that would show the value of our content to people who wanted to see what we are about. Well, it's been nearly 7 months since I took over and I think the value of being a member has to include more exclusivity in the content we put out. Essentially, the only thing that will be 'free' is stuff that can be consumed anywhere like simple game recaps and publicly available videos. I might continue to make the Sunday Morning Sidewalk series free since that has become more or less a weekly version of my personal notes and thoughts.

- There are always things we can do better and I want to take some time to thank everyone for their assistance with this over the last seven months. I have tried to push content and sometimes have not been my own best editor, so to those that sent me notes on some of those mistakes, thank you. I appreciate it more than you know. Thanks for all of your patience and kindness as we continue to work on reset for the site.

- It has not helped that the day job got a bit crazy right before the holidays and we are just staritng to pull out of a long term shortage of staff that should at least free up a little bit more of my time heading inton the spring and summer.

- You are all the reason I want this to work. You deserve the best site possible and I am always open to your thoughts on how we get better within our known constraints. Always feel free to reach out to me if you have thoughts. You can do it here or via email at sreed3939@gmail.com

Ex-Ravens and Michigan assistant charged with accessing thousands of college athletes' 'intimate digital photographs and videos'

I know when this happened everyone thought it was related to the Connor Stallions issue - and Ohio State fans were convinced Michigan was stealing all of their plays. It was far worse and far more repulsive.

Professional baseball is leaving Eugene.

The Eugene Emeralds announced Tuesday that the minor league franchise will relocate after failing to secure a long-term stadium solution.

“After four years of extensive efforts to secure a long-term home in Eugene, the Eugene Emeralds have reached a difficult conclusion: the future of professional baseball in the Emerald Valley is coming to a certain end,” a release from the Emeralds said. “The organization has explored multiple options, including a proposed stadium at the Lane County Fairgrounds and potential renovations to PK Park.”

Five-star LB Tyler Atkinson on his Oregon visit..

"Oregon was everything I imagined it would be," Atkinson said. "It was just like the coaches had described. Coach Lanning and the entire staff showed me exactly how much they wanted me to be apart of their program and team."

Now the question becomes whether Atkinson will go that far from home as Georgia and Clemson have made him the top priority. We'll see how it plays out from here.

QB Comp per Crepea

Novo spent some of his spring break in Denver with Bo. I'm slightly leaning Novo as starter, but time will tell. I hope I'm wrong and Moore goes pro next year after a top 3-4 season so we get to keep Novo.

"Novosad, who is 11 for 13 for 59 career yards in two seasons, knew this and chose to stay at UO last winter, and spring. Now is his first opportunity to truly compete for the job. Stein said Novosad is spending part of his spring break with Nix.

How a 64-team 2025 college 🏈 football tournament would play out

(2) Oregon 38, (15) UCF 17: Scott Frost is back for his second stint as UCF's coach, and he's no stranger to Oregon's program. Frost was on the Ducks' staff from 2009-15 and was the offensive coordinator the last three years. The Knights hang around for a while, but the Ducks turn a pair of third-quarter turnovers into touchdowns to pull away for the win.

USC's Vastly Upgraded Support Staff and Front Office Is Paying Off

Gonna try to regain dominance of Cali recruiting. IMO, under the best of circumstances it will take them a few years to catch UO, but players do like staying near home, all things being equal. It sounds like they have a bigger NIL bag.

Flock Talk: The Podcast Marcus Harper talks draft prep

In a special edition of Flock Talk: The Podcast, Drew Davis and I caught up with Marcus Harper to talk about his senior season, his Oregon choice, his training, and preparations for the upcoming Oregon Pro Day and NFL Draft.

Apologies in advance, we ran into some technical issues late in this so there is an echo feedback loop on some of the conversation near the end.

Is Belichick the new Neon or a belch

The guy claims he is building the 33rd NFL team but arrives without two NFL caliber sons as Neon did. His roster is going to be a LOT different than what UNC had this past non-stellar season. If he has any success at all he should begin winning the ACC within a couple years, getting into the play-offs where he might be meeting the Ducks.

Yep he'll be, like Sanders, in the NFL HOF but to my thinking he was carried there on the very sure shoulders of a guy named Brady and didn't do anything noteworthy when they were apart. Can't imagine he has done much to win friends among the brotherhood of college coaches. Haven't seen his staff but guess they almost all have NFL credentials without a lot of recruiting experience.

He'll be going up against Oregon, and obviously other top power programs, for at least a year or two. How will he do?

OK I did some homework ... and disappointed myself. Most of his coaches have quite a bit of coaching at the college level. .. and he did bring in two sons with him, as coaches.
