The transfer portal moves fast so been working on getting some stuff all day. I have thsi scheduled for tomorrow morning, but going to put the notes here right now.
Normally I would give a recruiting primer on Wednesday afternoon at the earliest – but transfer portal visits are just a different story as players take advantage of school calendars and a tight deadline to make a decision. Some of the really good players will make their decisions and some of them will have a very narrow list of favorites heading into some visits trying to squeeze those visits in as quickly as possible.
Today we will talk about a couple of players visiting this week – plus some notes on others focusing solely on offensive line right now.
Isaiah World: is the first name up and that is because he has already started his visit as of Tuesday evening. He is expected to take advantage of a full 48-hour visit and leave before the weekend.
This one could move quickly as World looks like he is going to make a quick decision.
Standing at 6-foot-8 and 309 pounds, World is originally from Lincoln High School in San Diego, where current Oregon signee Akili Smith Jr. also played. He earned an impressive 82.2 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus last season, ranking 17th nationally among regularly starting FBS tackles. A former three-star recruit, he was rated as the No. 88 player in California.
His current final three schools are Oregon, Texas A&M, and Nebraska.
Nevada Career Highlights:
- RS Junior (2024): Named All-Mountain West Honorable Mention; one of two Nevada linemen to start all 13 games, all at left tackle.
- RS Sophomore (2023): Earned All-Mountain West Honorable Mention; started all 12 games.
- RS Freshman (2022): Appeared in 11 games, starting the final 10 contests.
Gunnar Hansen: This is a name that just emerged as the Vanderbilt tackle has one season of eligibility left. He is also set to visit mid-week.
Hansen, a 6-5, 330-pound offensive lineman, has developed into a cornerstone of Vanderbilt’s offensive line. As a senior in 2024, Hansen earned national recognition, being named the Week 6 SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week and the Outland Trophy National Player of the Week for his dominant performance in Vanderbilt’s victory over Alabama. In that game, he posted the team’s best overall and pass-blocking grades, not allowing a sack or quarterback hit, and anchored an offense that scored 40 points—Vandy’s highest output in an SEC game since 2018.
During his junior season in 2023, Hansen started all 12 games, playing 779 snaps primarily at left tackle. His consistency stood out, particularly in Vanderbilt’s win over Hawai’i, where he earned an impressive pass-blocking grade of 83.3 from Pro Football Focus.
As a sophomore in 2022, Hansen demonstrated versatility, starting 11 games and splitting time between left tackle and left guard. He excelled in pass protection, posting strong grades, including an 85.9 against Elon, while allowing only two sacks all season. His academic dedication earned him a spot on the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Before arriving at Vanderbilt, Hansen was a standout high school player, winning back-to-back state championships at powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in Florida. A consensus three-star recruit, he showcased his talent early, recording 27 pancake blocks in his junior year while allowing just three sacks.
Ethan Onianwa: This is the top-rated guy in the portal at OT for a reason. He was exceptionally well coached at Rice and is one of the best pass blocking tackles in the nation. I know that sounds crazy coming from Rice, but it should be noted that the recently fired head coach from Rice – Mike Bloomgren – as the Offensive Line coach at Stanford from 2011-2017; he knows a lot about coaching OL and did a fantastic job getting Onianwa to the position he is in now.
He visited Ohio State already and there are a lot of people that think the Buckeyes are the team to beat already – so we will see. I know Oregon would love to have him, but I don’t think he has scheduled a visit yet. If he has, the staff are keeping it ultra secret.
Alex Harkey: The Texas State and former Colorado tackle was one of the first offensive linemen that the staff reached out to when he entered the portal and they really like him. The thing to watch now is how many offensive tackles Oregon takes out of the portal because that is going to be a good sign of what Josh Conerly is going to do.
If I am ranking the once listed so far, it would be Onianwa and Harkey.
Other Names: The reality is that there are going to be offensive linemen who are on other playoff teams that enter the portal and so I am also going to be watching to see if the Ducks hold off and wait to see some of the other names that pop in a little bit later in this portal/playoff window.
After the normal portal window closes, players on teams in the playoffs will have five days following their last game to enter the portal or wait until the spring window.
