Track is Back

A full slate of Oregon men distance runners, sprinters, throwers, and jumpers and the women sprinters, throwers, and jumpers will be in action THIS WEEKEND in Fayetteville, Arkansas. at the Razorback Invitational. The meet will be shown on the SEC+ network (streaming on ESPN app) Friday and Saturday.

It will be interesting to see how the layoff will affect the performances, but earlier indoor meets this year have been producing near record level marks. I expect big things from Oregon's distance crew, Cooper Teare, Cole Hocker, Reed Brown, and Charlie Hunter. They will be joined by a couple of Freshmen from the state of Oregon who will be seeing their first competition, EJ Holland, from Ashland, and Abdinasir Hussein from Portland (Roosevelt),

I'm also looking forward to seeing the other newcomers, particularly Micah Williams, Oregon State record holder in the 100 and 200, also from Portland (Benson). The women have some incoming sprint talent who will also be debuting an Oregon singlet. Kemba Nelson, who comes to Oregon as a R-Jr from Jamaica has only been in Eugene a short while, and true Freshmen Jayden Mays, who had 11 state championships in Arizona, as well as hurdler and sprinter Alexa Webster from Texas.

And then there is Freshman Jett Kinder, the multi-event star from Tennessee who will compete for Oregon in the Heptathlon, (along with veteran Max Volmer). Jett was a Silver medalist in the decathlon at the 2019 Pan American U20 Championships.

Finally, I looking forward to seeing, Emmanuel Ihemeje from Italy (Ethiopian descent) who is set to go in the triple jump. He just appeared on the Oregon roster this month and is a big time pick-up as he would have ranked 2nd or so in PAC 12 in 2019.

It will be a good competition. Arkansas is the top rated team in the nation, and USC and Colorado from the Pac-12 will also be there. Georgia is also a very good team.
Oregon is well represented and hopefully all of those listed will be able to stay healthy and compete.
