Twas the Ninteenth of April of 75

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the start of the American war of Revolution. Where Captain Parker told his troops, Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.

The first shots were exchanged at Lexington and Concord. Memorialized as "The Shot Heard Round world". And, it still reverberates.

There are too many summaries of the prelude to the fight and the fight itself for me to attempt another.

But, when it was all over our America had been born. And, a lot of blood has been shed to nurture it for our benefit.

WOMEN'S SB

I'm really supportive of woman's sports and I am very proud of our Duck Softball team.

However, sometimes I don't get how it all works.

The Ducks are playing at a high level then this last game they got killed. It happens. Its sports.

But the game was called on a run-rule situation (used to be called the "mercy rule" but that hurt too many feelings).

Besides the fact we got killed...what's with the run-rule deal?

Women want to be and are equals to men, so why play with archaic rules. Run rules are for Little League so the kids don't get their feeling hurt.

In this day and age, why does this even exist? Are the women too fragile to handle a bad loss?

Are they too weak to play a full game?

Hardly.

Get rid of this rule.

Duck Day Saturday: Football scrimmage, BB @ USC, SB @ UW

Big day for Duck sports today.

Football: For me the highlight is the Oregon football scrimmage, the first time they are allowing media to see a practice this year. They are also allowing a limited number of fans and player's families in so there will actually be a crowd. The scrimmage starts at 10:30am and goes until about 1:00pm. We have interviews with Cristobal, Ken Wilson and Jim Mastro afterwards.

Baseball (20-8, 6-4 Pac-12): Game two down at USC (17-11, 6-4 Pac-12). Lost yesterday so they need to win today to avoid losing the series.

Softball Big series at Washington against the No. 6 ranked Huskies. Doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. Both games will be televised live on Pac-12 Network. Like baseball, softball needs to win today after losing the opener yesterday.

Did Arizona go big enough to keep up with Oregon's rise?

I'm not sure they could have gotten a guy who could meet the challenge, but I don't they got what they needed, someone with a great recruiting reputation or head coaching experience. Let's face it, Few, with his record and NCAA "automatic invitations" at Gonzaga, is the draw. This year his undefeated track was almost interrupted by a play-in PAC12 team (an OT win in the semi-finals) and cut short in the Finale. It could be argued Gonzaga would have a hard time winning in a major conference, and might well have not have in two of them this year.

Arizona is not out of the woods yet with regard to possible NCAA sanctions, though a similar infraction drew USC, which has a troubled NCAA violation history of recent as a university, a light wrist slap. With Oregon's recent records and with UCLA and USC successes have upped the competition for recruiting within the conference. I double the name. Tommy Lloyd is that of someone many of today's HS players have dreamt of becoming.

Time will tell, but I'm voting this hire as a fail though I doubt a big time win was possible for the Cats to bring in.
