Transfer portal shenanigans: two wacky odysseys

Luke McCaffrey, younger brother of Christian, son of Mr. Ed, has changed schools three times in one year.

He left Nebraska after splitting time with Adrian Martinez, throwing for 466 yards, one touchdown, six interceptions over seven games.

Over the winter he transferred to Louisville, went through spring practice, saw he wasn't going to be the starter, so he transferred again after four months with the Cardinals.

Now he's committed to Rice, which was looking for a quarterback.

Consider also the curious case of Elijah Blades.

Committed to Oregon, flipped to Texas A&M in December 2018.

Opts out of 2020 season.

Announces he is leaving for the NFL draft.

Decides to stay in college, enters transfer portal and signs with Nebraska.

19 career tackles, 0 interceptions, three schools.

After a great visit, Robby Snelling is on Quack watch

Next fall for his high school team, Robby Snelling will play quarterback and rolled-up safety.

That's a great training foundation for a future captain on defense.

He's a top baseball prospect, with a 93 mph fastball and 108 mph exit velocity off the bat. In an interview he was asked about protecting his body and future earnings. He said, "Delivering the blow is how you protect yourself."

“Being a linebacker and also being a pitcher is a really weird combination,” Robby said. “But I always get told that (people) are impressed with how I fly around the field and hit people...and that mental approach that I’m going to play as hard as I can and do what I can to get the job done, I can take that out on the (baseball field)...

They are down on Cyrus Moss, who they say didn't have a good showing against other top prospects at the Rivals Camp Series.

Of course the Oregon staff will make their own evaluations, and their track record is pretty strong.

Proposed playoff format creates more opportunity, fewer realistic possibilities

Fans of Notre Dame can't be happy, but fans of Florida, Georgia and Texas A&M have to be over the moon.

Jerry Palm of cbs.com writes in support of the 12-team playoff, advancing the theory that it will enhance the regular season and expand interest.

For the Ducks and their faithful, it's exciting to contemplate, but daunting to consider the road to a future championship might require a late-November win on the road versus Utah, a win in in the PAC-12 Championship, then beating perhaps Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Alabama to complete a 17-game season.
