Pete Fiutak of College Football News speculates on the possible candidates, reaching for a college football power in his #1 slot.

Out here, the conference's university presidents will resist adding any member that is not perceived as a "prestige university," which leaves some worthy markets and sizable fan bases out of the discussion.

He really wants his team focused on beating the Buckeyes.

In this week's Three-Point Stance Mike Farrell of Rivals National says Mario Cristobal is one of the top ten coaches in the nation. He writes:

10. Mario Cristobal, Oregon — Many criticize Cristobal on this list as a top-10 coach because of a few bad losses but he’s won the Pac-12 twice and his recruiting and player development enhance his budding in game abilities.


Farrell says Kirby Smart is the coach who's under the most pressure to break through and compete for a national championship--the Georgia Bulldogs are loaded this year, offensively and defensively.


What's certain is that any of these top coaches will have to contend with Alabama and Nick Saban for a few more years: the Tide coach just signed an extension that takes him through 2028. He turns 70 on October 31st.

Right now I'd rank the conference in football something like this:

I spoke with Sir Mells about his trip to Eugene and commitment. We had a fairly long chat so I cut some quotes out of the story to make into some extra notes for DSA subs only.

• Why he doesn't have junior film: "They cancelled last season the week before we were supposed to start playing so I didn’t have a junior season. I played some club ball but got an injury the first game."
• During the last year: "I spent this negative time getting better at different things. I think I improved my relationship with my family. My body type definitely changed over this whole Corona thing. I gained way more muscle. I got bigger, stronger, faster."
• Currently 6-foot-4, 305-pounds: "I want to get my body right between now and Oregon. College is a whole different ball game than high school. Way faster pace."
• On decommitting from Washington: "I had been committed to Washington and some things happened there and I decommitted. After everything that happened they just took me in and showed me love. I just knew it was the one for me. It was definitely hard, there were some sleepless nights. It was a family decision. It wasn’t like I just woke up one morning and decided ‘oh, I’m decommitting. We went through days and days of talking about it, making sure that was what we wanted to do. But when I decommitted that is when I started really blowing up. Looking back now I feel like it was the best decision for me."
• Who came with him on his Oregon visit? It was my mom, my cousin Tristan, he had a PWO and he committed yesterday. My auntie, my uncle and my other two cousins, his sister and another cousin. So I had a big crowd.
• What position will he play here? "I will be one tech, nose guard, three tech. Definitely in the trenches up front. Oregon really wants a big body in the middle. They want to bring in that piece that sometimes is missing from the program. And I trust them to help make my body into all it can be, and they will push me past my limits."

Sam Noyer of Colorado says he wants a new opportunity to advance his dream of playing in the NFL. Led Buffs to a 4-2 record last year, 2nd team all-league.

Marshawn Lynch, Reggie Bush, Andrew Luck and Tony Gonzalez are prominent names on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot for 2021.

The ballot was emailed last week to more than 12,000 National Football Foundation members and current Hall of Famers.

Selections will be announced early in 2022.


Only 7 Oregon coaches and players have ever been selected for the Hall in 127 years of football.

According to ESPN,

Players are eligible if they are 10 full seasons removed from their final year of college football and have received first-team All-America honors by an organization recognized by the NCAA.

Coaches are eligible three full seasons after retirement or immediately after retirement if they are at least 70 years old. A coach also must have been a head coach for at least 10 years and have coached at least 100 games with a winning percentage of .600 or better.


Surprising to me that Joey Harrington or Haloti Ngata are not in the Hall. Have to check on Oregon All-Americas.

Bush was certainly a great player, but apparently banned for life doesn't mean what it used to.

Ducks in a tight one, struggling a bit at the plate, LSU winning 2-1 in the B5th. Ducks need a rally!

Ducks have a fantastic first inning, three hits and helped by two Bulldog errors to lead 4-0 in their half of the first.

Mookie Cook will be in the house, along with some other talented 22/23 guys, two of whom are local. I'd imagine Cook will wait til' he's taken all his visits.

According to SB Nation's UW Dawgpound, the Huskies are in "good position" to land him after hosting his first official visit.
