Chargers tight end Hunter Kampmoyer wins Tom Hansen Award

Two recipients picked from each school, one male and one female, for athletic achievement, community involvement and scholarship.

Story from Yahoo Sports:

A two-time Scholar-Athlete of the Year honoree at Oregon, Hunter Kampmoyer will leave Eugene with a legacy of impact on and off the field. He set career highs in catches, receiving yards and touchdowns as a senior in 2020, finishing among the Conference tight end leaders for touchdowns. In addition to his stellar play on the field and work in the classroom, Kampmoyer was an active volunteer for several community service projects. He also spoke to local youth and completed projects for the Oregon Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Club of Eugene, and Boy Scouts of America.

  • Oregon was his second visit
  • First visit was to Kentucky
  • He has two more visits set, South Carolina and Michigan
  • May take fifth visit to either Mississippi State or Purdue
  • Loved his trip to Eugene, the people and the facilities made it a great experience
  • Noticed when he got off the plane way less humidity here
  • Rivals has him at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds in the database but he says that was from freshman year
  • Now 6-foot-3 1/2, 185-pounds. He tried to tell me 187 but I told him I was marking down 185, he laughed

PAC-12 ADs meet with new commissioner, discuss changes to schedule, league championship, dropping divisions

Story from Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News:

Incoming commissioner George Kliavkoff met with the 12 conference athletic directors last week in Las Vegas.

They had wide-ranging discussions about the possibility of changing to eight conference games, eliminating the divisions, the new playoff format and the next round of media rights.

The league's current deal with Fox and ESPN expires in 2022, and a proposed expansion of the college football playoff is expected to begin in 2023.

USC writer to coaches: stop whining and do a better job

Writing about the transfer portal, Matt Zemek urges college football coaches to take their own advice and control what they can control:

He quotes Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell,

"What we've always believed, and sometimes lose sight of, is that you have to continually build your relationship with a kid,” he said. “I’ve always done a great job of that with the kids that are playing, but I’ve done a bad job in all my days of coaching, I think, of kids who might not be the seven to eight [top] linebackers. … You’ve got those redshirted kids and guys on the scout team and you said, ‘Hey, that’s a part of life. I’ll see you in six months when the season ends.’ And it’s been a reminder to us that, for goodness’ sakes, we weren’t doing it right 15-20 years ago spending enough time to make sure we’re building that relationship.”

G/F? to Decide Sunday...Ramel Lloyd

Dior Johnson decides Friday, so maybe they are related decisions? Can this guy really play PG? Probably not as a Fr. Good chance a bunch of guys were under the radar due to Covid. Maybe he's one of them.
