Pritchard Rookie Recap

Celtics traded Smart, and so far have not picked up another true PG. IIrc, they picked up a couple of bigs for Smart. Hmm. Could they, would they...start him next year? I wouldn't have thought so. Some interesting points re stats for catch and shoot vs pick and roll, offense and D.
Bottom line, he's much better than most NBA talent evaluators thought. I suppose they could trade him as part of a PG upgrade, but I bet not.
There's an audio podcast version too.

DSA Inside Reed-Article

It is a shame that cover articles do not have a link so that discussion about the articles can take place, but we can improvise easily enough by linking it right here.

Scott--great article, and I am wondering about how the Saturday Night Live event fits into whether it is counted as an official visit? (I would hope not)

Are you optimistic about many of these prospects coming to the event and verballing then?

My thanks,

Charles

JTT Cancels Alabama Trip? Whew!

Some think this is a sign that Oregon closed the deal, but I am not so sure.

Maybe he had it confirmed in his mind that he is going to Ohio State when he left Columbus, and made the trip to Oregon for a variety of reasons–the biggest perhaps was to see if anyone could talk him out of the Buckeyes?

And we didn’t.

In that case, no need to visit Alabama if your mind is made up to go to Ohio State.

Sorry for the cold water, and here’s to hoping I read that wrong!

Thoughts?

NCAA announces interim policy on Name, Image and Likeness

Report from Homero De la Fuente of CNN.

In a major step, the NCAA Division I Council voted Monday to support an interim policy that would allow college athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness (NIL) without violating NCAA rules until federal legislation or new NCAA rules are adopted.
The Division I Board of Directors will meet Wednesday to review and vote on the recommendation.
In states that have passed NIL-related laws -- Alabama, Florida and Georgia, among others -- athletes would be able to participate in NIL activities that are "consistent with the laws."
For states without NIL laws, athletes will be able to freely engage in NIL activities, making money off signing autographs, or endorsement deals, but schools and conferences in those states, "may choose to adopt their own policies."

Attrition is built into the system

Whenever a player retires or transfers out, we often think, "well, that frees up a scholarship." That phrase or something like it comes up frequently on the boards.

A team can sign up to 25 a year, 27 if you're Nick Saban at Alabama.

15 or so freshmen will redshirt. 4 classes plus 15 is 115 scholarships in four classes.

Yet there is an 85-man scholarship limit.

A team has to lose 7.5 players a year to stay under the limit.

It's not until you get to the 9th guy that you've freed up a scholarship. And each and every year there's the 25-man signing limit.

Sporting News Bowl Projections

Bob Bender of TSN:

SC in the Rose Bowl.

Ducks to the Alamo versus Oklahoma State.

This would be a disappointment for a team with three straight Top Ten recruiting classes.

69 days until Duck Football

In 1969 the Ducks went 5-5-1 under head coach Jerry Frei.

They beat Washington 22-7, lost to Oregon State 10-7.

The offense cranked out an explosive 24.6 points per game. The defense allowed 22.2.

Star of the '69 squad was Bobby Moore (then, now Ahmad Rashad) who rushed for 5 touchdowns, had 10 more as a receiver. Tom Blanchard completed 57.6% of his passes for 1488 yards and 12 TDs. 2nd team quarterback John Harrington (Joey's dad) threw for another 749 yards, 4 TDs, 6 picks.

New Rivals or Old? Part of Oregon Progression?

Over at another site they have an interesting article for discussion in their comments about whether our traditional rivals will remain our primary ones, or if with Oregon's upward progression those passions may shift?

I thought I would check the thoughts over here on this, as for me--the hatred and venom have run too long and too deep for me to change. Yet so much of college football is changing these days, just as the ol' classic Nebraska-Oklahoma rivalry has faded.

Are we headed that direction?
