Tonight near Stanford

Tonight I am going to a reception near Stanford for the new UO president. It is not likely a coincidence that president Scholz’s visit coincides with the Stanford Oregon game.

Over my long experiences as a Northern CA alumnus, I have lots of memories of the university’s outreach to alumni and potential students during the spirited rivalry with Stanford or Cal. It has been part of a wonderful connection between northern CA and the university.

I am sure that the Oregon and Stanford will continue to schedule each other from time to time but it won’t be the same.

Oregon has benefited immeasurably from their connection with the Bay Area. There will be new areas of the Big 10 in which Oregon will sprout new connections, but our Bay Area relationship has been around for over a century. This kind of relationship doesn’t happen overnight. The Bay Area / Oregon connection has been special. I’m sad to see this conference rivalry with Stanford coming to an end.

Now let’s go beat Stanford!

“The consequences for OSU are devastating,” Murthy said.

Legislative hearing paints a pretty dire picture for OSU. This really sucks.

Non Confr Games

Aubs up 10/0 on Ga. Hope they can pull this out. Lots of time left, but Aub looking pretty strong. And running on Ga seems improbable, but they are doing it. Announcers say aub has a portal OL. The great equalizer.

Oregon football looking forward to linebacker Jestin Jacobs’ debut.

“We miss him,” linebacker Jamal Hill said. “We seen him practice all spring, everything till he got hurt. We know what he’s going to bring to our defense. I’m excited for the world to see what he has to offer because he’s a special player. Like, really, really, really special. I feel like our defense is really good now but when he comes back he’s going to give us that extra boost from good to great.”

No. 9 Oregon visits Stanford in search of its 1st 5-0 start since 2013

WHAT’S AT STAKE?

Oregon comes in on a roll after beating Colorado 42-6 last week in a high-profile game and is seeking its first 5-0 start since 2013. The Ducks want to avoid a repeat of their last trip to Stanford when they came in ranked No. 3 in the country and lost 31-24 the unranked Cardinal. Stanford has lost eight straight games against ranked teams since that win with all of them coming by double-digits. The Cardinal are huge underdogs.
