New Track rosters out today

Oregon picked up some good transfers. The women picked up two transfers from academic powerhouses Duke, and Stanford. With the addition of Alexis Rossum from Stanford, the women’s sprint team is now set. The relay team should be competitive if not outstanding. I’d put them in the top five in the NCAA and second in the PAC 12. The distance group is loaded. The middle distance looks good.

The men picked up several sprinters that look to be walk-ons as well as some some pretty good transfers. I see all of the above as badly needed depth to a strong group of starters on the 4x100 team.

One men’s incoming freshman of note is Jamaican thrower Kobe Lawrence. He has impressed In international Juniors competition in the shot and discus. However, the strength athletes develop late, so he is a bigger story for the future than the present.

I love the roster. The program is expanding into getting more field talent, while still excelling in the mid to long distance events. Both the men and women will be unusually well rounded. This will be a treat for the Oregon partisans! Our team will play a part in the entire show!

Oregon’s rivals will be competitive. American college track and field recruits internationally. It promises to be a great show! I have bought my tickets and booked my hotel room for the NCAA Championships in Track Town USA.

Remember,NEVER COUNT THE DUCKS OUT! This is Oregon’s sport and we are in it to win it. Go Ducks!

Wednesday War Room: Kam Alexander Commit Impact

I want to highlight that Kam Alexander is, in my evaluation, the best cover corner in the portal cycle, excluding Decamerion Richardson, the cornerback transfer from Mississippi State.

Evan Stewart still seems to be a heavy lean to Oregon.

The top running back on the Oregon recruiting board, Davison has been to Oregon multiple times.

Delane is set to visit on the last weekend of January – and as you would expect, a top 15 player in the nation from the East coast

All-American Bowl coverage

I'm out in San Antonio for the All-American Bowl where the Ducks have six signees participating in the game along with top receiver target Gatlin Bair. All of them are playing for the West squad which had to practice in the rain on Day 1 Tuesday making it a little difficult to truly get any major work in.

However, it was a good opportunity to see some of the recruits in person as they prepare for the next stages of their careers. Below are some clips and photos of several of the players including DL Xadavien Sims (81), DL Jericho Johnson (91), OL Fox Crader (70), DB Aaron Flowers (16), LB Brayden Platt (23) and Bair (13). Linebacker Kamar Mothudi (32) is also part of the West squad but the linebackers didn't do a whole lot on the first day.

I will be tracking all of them throughout the week leading into Saturday's game at the Alamodome.

Men's Hoops

I looked so I am not contributing to the delinquency of a forum and there does not seem to be a Duck basketball forum such as this and this seems to be the best landing place for all of Oregon sports so ..

We don't hear a lot from Dana. Is it because nobody asks him questions or perhaps nobody catches his statements and passes them on?

What is the latest projection on the returns of Biddle and Dante?

4-0 ?

Had some said a month ago that after 4 weeks ASU and Oregon would be the only 4-0 teams in the conference and USC and UCLA would be big disappointments, they would have been stuffed into the same box of crazy I usually occupy. Even I would have laughed. and that would have been true even with the Big guys not recovering from injuries. Arizona was, at one time, number 1 in the nation. The Trojans and Bruins were favored for at least the second spot. Stanford shocked the Wildcats and almost everyone pounds away at the UCLA and USC pretenders.

Haven't watched the Devils play but Oregon has been spending counterfeit money and getting the goods for it. There is a lot of talent there but a team depending so heavily on a couple of freshman isn't supposed to be that good. Yet, they are. With only 7 or eight scholly players on the floor and one of those of third string caliber, on this team, they are hustling and shooting themselves into the front and onto the top. How can such a team fail to fall apart in the ends of games where their leads begin to dissolve late in the clock, yet when have they folded?

I'll say it again. They are playing Altman ball, not resisting doing so. Recently at about this time in the schedule we are beginning to question if Dana will have another 20 victory season and the past couple of years the answers hasn't come until almost the final whistle of the final game after the players finally bought in. This year, if the addition of the biggest stars going into this season doesn't cause an upset in style (can't imaging it will), Oregon might have a nice seeding in March.

Last night was amazing. Oregon was back into trying to hold down the other teams scoring in the paint, collecting more fouls than they could probably use. The other team was also getting a decent share of the three pointers and really spending a lot of time at the foul line. It probably should have been another disappointing trip to Pullman. BUT .. Oregon shot the lights out from mid ranges, and especially from beyond the arc. And .. again .. when the Cougs were within a three point shot of victory, they Coug'd it.

Cal coming to town on Thursday gives the Duck's a good shot a 5-0 (13-3) , with not much chance they are overconfident even against a so-so team of Bears. After that they travel to Colorado to play a completely unpredictable host in a place where Altman has collected plenty of material for nightmares. I don't know if the big guys will be back yet but even without them this group might keep up their trend.
