Supreme Court Acknowledges Husky Cheating

From today's NCAA decision:

"In the 1940s, Hugh McElhenny, a halfback at the University of Washington, 'became known as the first college player ‘ever to take a cut in salary to play pro football.’ Zimbalist 22–23. He reportedly said: ‘[A] wealthy guy puts big bucks under my pillow every time I score a touchdown. Hell, I can’t afford to graduate.’" Id., at 211, n. 17.

9-0 decision holding that the NCAA restrictions on education-related payments to student athletes are illegal, with a concurring opinion by Justice Kavanaugh saying the rest is also likely illegal.

This decision will make the need for a federal NIL law clear, and possibly lead to more thorough action by Congress regulating college sports and generally precluding ordinary antitrust analysis.

Micah Williams

As many of you probably know, Oregon freshman, Micah Williams finished 5th in the finals of the 100m with a school record time of 9.91!!! Ironically the old school record of 9.93 was set by Cravon Gillespie who finished 6th in the same heat. It is very possible that both Cravon and Micah sprinted their way into the US Olympic 4x100 team. The relay team always has 6 people, two of which are in the “pool”. If the relay team should medal, any members of the pool that contribute during a preliminary round will also medal. Stay tuned !

Michal is refreshingly humble.

Cook and Shelstad get Huge Bumps

Cook the highest rated Oregonian of all time...too bad he wont finish in state...or maybe he will.

T&F, money, Nike, Knight and a mention of Hayward

We may again realize that it is easier to derive truth from error than from confusion.

P J Fleck is on the short list

After all, the man is only 5-10.

Briefly considered by Oregon before they hired Willie Taggart in 2016, the Minnesota coach has a new book out, appropriately titled "Row Your Boat."

Beware coaches who rely too heavily on slogans and motivational tricks. Still, Fleck coached the Gophers to an 11-2 record in 2019, a win over Penn State and #10 final ranking. They slumped to 3-4 in 2020.

Not sure what he has this season, but it's of some interest to Duck fans: they host Ohio State on Thursday night to open the season, national TV on Fox.

Maybe Fleck can whip his team into another motivational frenzy and soften the Buckeyes up, perhaps reveal a couple of softer spots.

Top 25 college football quarterbacks

From the Sporting News. List includes UCLA's Dorian Thompson-Robinson at 25, ASU's Jayden Daniels at 14, Kedon Slovis of USC at 6.

CJ Stroud of tOSU, Alabama's Bryce Young and Clemson's Daniel Uiagalelei place high despite limited experience.

No sign of Anthony Brown, Ty Thompson or Jay Butterfield, as expected. Maybe by the end of the year.

The 2021 Dessert Playoffs

In an effort to get everyone acclimated to a 12-team playoff and how it would work, I propose we try to form a playoff committee and seed the 12-best desserts.
