Update: Washington, D.C. DB Collin Gill talks Oregon visit, upcoming decision

St. John's College High (Washington, D.C.) defensive back Collin Gill took an unofficial visit to Oregon with his dad over the weekend and spent a good amount of time with the coaching staff. He was able to get a better idea of how he fits into the plans after picking up his offer from the Ducks a couple weeks ago. He's started to gain some traction in his recruitment again after dealing with an ankle injury that kept him out for half of his junior season leading to a slowdown in his recruitment. However, he's ready to make a decision and will announce his choice this Thursday. He says that Oregon was his childhood dream school, and right now all the signs point to the Ducks being the spot. Michigan, Washington, Maryland and Kansas State make up the rest of his top five at this point.

His trip to see the Ducks was productive and he came away with a really strong impression of Dan Lanning and the entire defensive staff and Oregon as a school.

"It was great. I really love coach Lanning, coach Demetrice [Martin], coach Tosh [Lupoi], coach [Matt] Powledge – all those coaches. They really connected with me and showed me a lot of the things that I love about Oregon. Especially the school. I really liked the school part at Oregon, especially the business school. I want to major in finance, and I really love what they do in the business school."

A Track Coaching Change is Coming

Nothing has been announced but I’ve heard from a reliable source outside of the AD that Robert Johnson won’t be Oregon’s head coach next season. There is a rumor that Oregon is interested in the BYU coach.

I do not know anything more than that.
Robert has been one of the most accomplished head coaches in Oregon history. His are big shoes to try to fill. I do know that he always wanted to return one day to his beloved home state, North Carolina.

Post mortem to Oregon’s 2022 track season

The Register Guard had a major article in the paper today. It was the year of sprinters, horizontal jumpers and throwers.

The men performed well throughout the year and were considered to be the better team. More focus went to sprint star Micah Williams than any Duck on the team. He was a sensation. In the end the men and Micah had a disappointing finish .
The women sprinters had talent but more than that they had more heart than a Valentine’s Day card. With less heralded stars and less impressive form charts the women surprised us as much as the men disappointed us. By the end of the meet the star 100m sprinter wasn’t Micah Williams. It was Kemba Nelson. The most exciting 4x1 team wasn’t the Oregon men, but the Oregon women. The most successful thrower wasn’t Ty Hampton, it was Jaida Ross.

Although the women did not challenge for a team trophy, their competitive spirit
brought Oregon fans to their feet in wild applause. The women saved this meet… and they carried on the great legacy of Oregon track in style. Thanks for the show Gals!

UPDATE: Oregon still in play a week out from Jaden Rashada's decision

Four-star quarterback Jaden Rashada has been busy over the last week with three official visits in that time. He saw Texas A&M, LSU and Florida in that time helping him move closer to a decision. He has previously set June 18 as his announcement date, and the continues to stick to that plan. He says he could take one more visit before making his decision but at this stage he has nothing set. Oregon hosted Rashada earlier in the spring, and he says the Ducks remain an option on the table.

Rashada's first day at the OT7 passing tournament was last night and he has teamed up with current Oregon receiver commit Jurrion Dickey as two of the California players on the Miami Immortals team. The duo has looked sharp when it linked up, so that is certainly a potential glimpse into the future.

Ole Miss continues to have a ton of buzz with Rashada with his brother recently committing to the school. His dad was also decked out in Ole Miss gear at the event. Still, Rashada says he has not yet made a decision and is still mulling the options.

When it comes to Oregon he feels there is a strong comfort level with the Ducks.

"They got something great going down there. They always have a good shot at competing in the Pac-12 Championship and try and compete for a natty, so I'd say they stand pretty well with me."
