Tyrell Crosby...

Tyrell Crosby yesterday tweeted to the affect that he would be back next season.

Crosby explained further in a statement:

"The prospect of playing for Coach Taggart my final year here was certainly a factor in my return. His enthusiasm and vision for this program are contagious. I am excited to be coached by him and to enhance my development."

I got an interesting take from Coach Gary Campbell just prior to the announcement which gave some good insights.

"Crosby, even though he is kind of looking into the draft, they are going to tell him he hasn’t played enough. He has got to come back."

Regardless, that is great news for the Ducks. When added to the four (now) sophomores who started last year, they will have a vastly more experienced OL going into 2017.

JUCO Tight End: It would be my dream to play there

Oregon offered Mik'Quan Deane about a week after Taggart got to Oregon. This one sounds like it could be really good news. I love this kids film. Big, strong, good receiver, willing blocker. Should be able to step up and play right away.

When speaking of the offer from Coach Taggart Mik'Quan Deane had this to say: "I was so happy to hear that because it would be my dream to play there"

As for those worried about that old bugaboo, distance, don't. He specifically told me he WANTS to leave Oklahoma to play at the next level.

Mik'Quan Deane Interview

Freeman has always been overrated

You can be overrated and still be very good. I like Freeman as a player and a person and I am glad he is coming back. The truth is though, Freeman was the 2nd best back on the Duck team this past fall and they may have won another game or two if they had played Brooks, who deserved way more carries. This is another thing I did not like about Helfrich. He played the "name" rather than the best player until game 8 or 9.

I have always felt that Freeman LOOKS better than he really is. He is big , strong, and fast, but if you watch him, he often does not fall forward when being tackled like LMJ used to do. I would take LMJ, Barner, Blount and a few other guys over Freeman. Freeman needs to become a more angry runner. He has the potential to be much better than he is. Sometimes he shows glimpses, but if he ran with that anger, and some more reckless abandon, he would be something else

I understand Freeman had some injuries and that was part of it, but even when healthy in past years, I didn't see that explosion right before contact. Hopefully, this new coaching staff will bring it out of him. Its great that he is coming back and I hope he can improve in this area because he has the body and skills to make a lot of money playing on Sundays

New 2018 Offer: ATH Jashaun Corbin

Jashaun Corbin plays for Holy Trinity HS in Florida, and calls the offer from Oregon "a dream offer" and he definitely plans on getting out to Eugene for a visit in the near future.

Login to view embedded media Corbin was offered by Taggart and the staff while they were at South Florida, and his relationship with the Coaching staff and staying in contact was a major factor in him being offered.

No go on Joe

Washington State: Defensive line coach Joe Salave’a has signed a new multi-year contract, according to AllSportsTucson's Javier Morales, who adds Oregon had interest in him. Salave’a has been at Wazzu since 2012.

Posted this due to talk on the boards about Joe Salave'a possibly joining our staff. Looks like that is no longer an option...

Wednesday Whispers

I am hoping to be able to bring this to you every week going forward; just a few snippets of information from the week as it relates to recruiting.

Those things that are whispered into my ear, I return the favor and whisper them back to you!

Nothing earth shattering this week; but there is some fact based opinion thrown in - like I feel confident that Lenoir will be a Duck when all is said and done, and I think that the Ducks are in a very good position with Josh Falo. I know Calcaterra was offered, and I know that he wanted the prior staff to be more involved; it is 99.99% sure that the Ducks simply waited too long and really are not in good position.

Recruiting Tidbit

So, Nick Pickett put out this tweet that everyone probably saw:

What I can say is that the silent commit to which he spoke was NOT Thomas Graham. Nick knows who it is and is not yet willing to say specifically who it is. I talked to him tonight and a couple of things I can sy about that:

1) It is not Rahyme Johnson, I spoke with Rahyme and he has not heard from Taggart or Leavitt and appears to be ready to move on
2) It will not be known until signing day

This also seems clear to me that the silent is also not Lenoir.

I also spoke with Kaymen Cureton (since some wanted to jump to the conclusion that it might have been him based on his own response to Pickett's tweet); it is not. Cureton tells me he has not heard from Taggart yet.

Who is it? Not positive enough to release a name or even speculate regarding some of the names I have heard; but suffice it to say, there is still a silent commit out there and it is not a 'ho-hum' recruit.
