MBB recruiting on a different planet

Kind of silly, but Oregon is a real player for six 5* in the 2018 class:

#1 RJ Barrett
#3 Bol Bol
#8 Simisola Shittu
#9 Jordan Brown
#21 Emmitt Williams
#23 Louis King

And a large number of quality 4*:

#44 Jules Bernard
#46 Kamaka Hepa
#57 Miles Norris (Commit)
#68 Eric Ayala
#82 Isaiah Mucius
#84 Bryan Penn-Johnson

2018 should be the best class ever, short of a major disaster.

Also Oregon in on Luguentz Dort, but not sure why he isn't showing in the Rivals150.

Basically the entire Lakeridge varsity football team (Groman, Crofut, Peterson, Smith, Seals, De'Vries, Musgrove, Wiley, John, Shanks, Logsdon)
Jack Steil (LCC)

OT: Vicarious visions

So, as many know, my son is about to enter his second year of law school at Michigan.

I never have much thought to his schedule. After completing 1st year, he went to China for an internship. He returned a few weeks ago, but went straight to interviews for summer associate programs for the summer between second and third year law school.

He was starting to get nervous when the first several firms passed... And then he received an offer from Baker McKenzie, one of the top firms in the world. They are headquartered in Chicago, but Layne will be in the New York office.

Like many companies they have their warts, but this is definitely a great opportunity for him and I am very excited for him!

His fiancee also received an offer from a New York firm, so they are ecstatic...

Cristobal: "Every season brings hope"

Co-OC Mario Cristobal answered questions heading into the Ducks’ season-opener against Southern Utah on Saturday.

On what game week brings

It’s the best part about football; every season brings hope. Everything that is happening now is a culmination of all the work done from January up until now. I think we understand that. We also understand that it only gives you an opportunity. A chance.

On the Southern Utah defensive game plan

They certainly want to stop the run. They are going to load the box. They are going to put people in gaps and try to outnumber you. So for us it is a great opportunity.

On the team mood heading into the opener

We are a high-energy, high-juice operation. But most of this is taking place through preparation, which is critical. Guys have bought in and you can see the excitement. They are bouncing around like crazy right now. So it’s great.

On if he has ten guys he can rotate in yet

We’ll know more by Thursday but there are six, seven, eight guys that deserve to play. We’ll see between now, especially with today being a physical practice, with tomorrow being a physical practice, I think we’ll get the rest of our answers over the next couple days.

Official visits...

We won't have to talk about official football recruiting visits for awhile. That's because this staff is not going to be doing them during the football season. They are going to have guys here but they will all be unofficial visitors.

The plan is to bunch all of the visits closer to signing day.

So that means most the visitors we will have for games will tend to be more of the local variety since it will be on players and family's own dime during the season.

DSA will have a list of expected unofficial visitors each game, but it will be Thursday or Fridays before we release those.

This weekend I do know that Braden Lenzy and his brother Max will be here. I'm sure there will be many more visitors but I did confirm with both of them.

Herbert: This year different

Oregon sophomore quarterback Justin Herbert is back at the helm of the Ducks for 2017, the undisputed leader of the offense. Last year at this time he was second or third string behind senior transfer Dakota Prukop and others.

But after being named the starter midway through last year, he now enters the season with far more knowledge and confidence.

Tuesday he met with media before practice to answer some questions.

On team mood heading into the game

"I think the energy is just way up there. Everybody is so excited to be back out there especially after the year we had last year. The guys are excited to be back out there and I think the coaches are too."

On how this year feels different than last year before the opener

"It is quite a bit different. After a year of experience you just know how to prepare better. Last year, your first year in college football, you never really know how to prepare, how to watch film. After going through a year you just pick up on things"

Arroyo: "What wins games is time-tested"

With four days to go before the Ducks open their 2017 football season in Eugene against Southern Utah, Co-OC Marcus Arroyo answered questions about his offense and their readiness.

On playing any quarterbacks other than Herbert

"We don’t have that in our plans right now. Our plan right now is Justin going out there and go win a football game."

On what he wants to see from his offense on Saturday

"The biggest thing with the youth we’ve got and the youthfulness in our program, is going out and seeing guys play fast. Execute. Have fun. The score will take care of itself. I am a firm believer in that. If we do things that we’ve been coached to do, the score will take care of itself.

"What wins games is time-tested and infallible; turnovers in critical situations. No mental errors; not beating ourselves. That’s the biggest thing."

On freshman WR Johnny Johnson winning the start

"He has executed really well for a young guy. He has matured every day. He has come out and made plays. He has played hard and he is excited. He is a perfect of example of the opportunities we have got. He is a young guy who we are excited about seeing go out there in his first game.

"We know there are going to be some nerves there. We’ve all been there."

K / ILB?

Going through the roster and noticed Schneider weighs 12 lbs more than Troy Dye lol. Dye is not a small man either. Also noticed we have 14 guys over 300 lbs and a few more knocking on the door. Coach wasn't kidding when he said he wanted us bigger. Reminds me of Chip saying bigger guys beat up smaller guys, or something to that affect.
