Track Recruiting

The verbal commitments are pouring into D1 programs all over the country right now. The early signing date of Nov 8 is fast approaching. I imagine that Oregon will have some surprise signings during the early signing period. With the rigid NCAA scholarship restrictions, Oregon is limited on just who they will be able to take. With the current rate of PSAs making their choices known, I imagine that we might not have to wait until Nov 8 to learn of the next Oregon commitment

Right now we have 4 commitments (3 men and 1 woman). The class is just forming, but it is very strong. It could get pretty exciting to see what the next eight days has in store for Oregon track. Enjoy the ride!

New Nebraska AD Moos on Frost

I wonder if Fla will get to him 1st. From ESPN.

New Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos extensively praised UCF coach Scott Frost when asked about the former Husker star on Tuesday.

Speaking with KOZN radio in Omaha, Moos said Frost "has got the full package" as a coach and expects Frost to be leading a Power 5 program "probably sooner than later." Frost would be considered a primary candidate for Nebraska's coaching job if the school chooses to make a change.

Moos, hired earlier this month to replace Shawn Eichorst, said he would wait until the end of the season to evaluate third-year coach Mike Riley. The Huskers are 4-4 this season and 19-15 overall (12-10 in the Big Ten) under Riley.

Frost, who went 24-2 as Nebraska's quarterback and helped the Huskers to a share of the 1997 national title, is 7-0 in his second season at UCF, which ranks No. 15 in the latest AP Poll. Asked by host Nick Bahe if he is following Frost's progress this season, Moos replied, "Well, Scott, of course, has a great resume. ... He has learned from some of the great football minds in the business, throughout the years both at the college level and the professional ranks."

Moos praised Frost's work as an assistant at Oregon, where Moos served as athletic director from 1995 to 2007. He added that the only gap in Frost's profile was being a head coach and that he "has handled that superbly, from afar, as I look at it."

"Of course, he does have the roots here, raised in the state of Nebraska and playing for the icon that Tom Osborne is. A lot of things very positive," Moos said. "Scott is going to coach in a Power 5 [program], and probably sooner than later. He's paid his dues, and I've been quite impressed."

Frost's name has already come up for the Florida job after the firing of Jim McElwain on Sunday.

Tony Brooks-James: Confidence...

Oregon broke out of its offensive slump last Saturday with a 41-20 win over Utah at Autzen Stadium, snapping a three-game conference winning streak. A streak that coincided with the injury to Justin Herbert and true freshman Braxton Burmeister getting a premature college start.

"It felt good because we needed this win, not only for the team but for Braxton to have confidence and for us to have confidence in him," said Brooks-James.

On the minds of many college pundits across the nation was the open job at Florida, and the speculation that Willie Taggart was a prime candidate.

"Yesterday during dinner he announced that it (Florida coaching rumor) is false."

4-star check up: Looking at Ugo Amadi and other 4-stars who went out of state

Each week during the college football season, we’ll use Tuesday as a chance to look back at four four-star prospects that shined during the previous week’s college football action. Today we will focus on a quartet of players that left their home states to attend college and are now having success far away from home.

Ugo Amadi

As a recruit: Amadi’s recruitment took plenty of twists and turns, as it looked like he was initially bound for Tennessee, only to end up committing to Ole Miss prior to the start of his senior season. He would later flip to LSU in December with a plan to enroll early, but ended up committing to Oregon less than two weeks later and enrolling at the school despite never taking an official visit.

What he did this week: Amadi spent his first two seasons in Eugene as a starter at cornerback but was recently moved to safety and is thriving in the Ducks' rapidly improving defense. In Saturday’s win over Utah, Amadi made one of the games biggest plays, hitting Utah receiver Darren Carrington
for a loss, knocking the ball loose and scooping it up and returning it for a 49-yard touchdown. Amadi finished the game with three tackles, one pass deflection and one quarterback hurry. On the season, Amadi is tied for the Oregon team lead in interceptions and fumble recoveries.

HS Playoffs

It seems rather strange they have 32 teams in HSFB playoffs. I mean the top 15-20 teams sure, but when they play so many more games it would seem to 1) not reward the best teams enough for the regular season performances, and 2) place the kids at great risk of injury playing so many games.
Sure, it's HS and everyone wants a shot, but IT seems to me a 3and 6 team really doesn't belong in this. I wonder if it's really worth it.

What would our record be if Herbert was not hurt ?????

This first year with Taggart has had lots of challenges. I personally did not realize how many. The coaching staff is new. I don't think we all recognize the enormity of them all meshing together and providing the best product. We have had to play way to many Freshman, thank you Mark. Herbert, our star gets hurt. In comes a Freshman quarterback who probably thought he would not play a down this year. He is coming around but odds of immediate success is next to zero. The only thing this staff has 100% control over at this point is recruiting, and thats been a home run. Next year most players will know the program inside and out, we will bring in a top 10 class and Herbert will be a year older. We are lucky to have Leavitt, his defense soon will be the best in Pac 12. I personally am super happy at this point and am willing to wait. I see no reason to have any concern and bail on this team. Most did last week but the coaches and players didn't. That in itself is a big win.... Go Ducks !!!!
