As most of you know, it was a double track day for Oregon duck fans. Hayward Field hosted the annual Prefontaine Classic, and the final day of the NCAA Western Regionals were held in Sacramento.
Let's just focus on the Regionals. Oregon qualified a lot of people for the finals. The women's 4x400 and 4x100 relay teams are the top qualifiers from the Western half of college track. Even more impressive, the women had the top time while holding their top 400 meter runner, Makenzie Dunmore out of the relay race. Freshman Jasmin Reed qualified in three events...100, 200, and 4x100. Just to name a few stars, Jessica Hull qualified in the 1500, Lily Burdon in the 5k, Ariana Washington in the 4x1, 100, and 200,Lauren Rain Williams qualified in the 200 and the 4x100, and Alaysha Johnson easily dominated her heat to qualify in the 100m hurdles today...but there are more that i would name if I wasn't so tiered from a full day of watching track and field.
On the men's side the biggest disappointment was that the 4x100 team did not finish...I missed that race and don't as yet know what happened. However, the 4x400 team made up for that by running their guts out to qualify in the 4x400. Gillespie qualified with an impressive run in the 200. Braxton Canady was a strong qualifier in the 110h, Ben Milligan qualified in the high jump, John Nizich in the Javelin, Sam Prackel dominated in the 1500, Stanvosek also qualified in the 1500, and freshman Cooper Tiere will be representing Oregon at the NCAAs in the 5k.
