Coaching staff nuggets
• Other than Alabama's, there aren't many notable defensive coordinator vacancies. But keep an eye on Oregon. Since the American Football Coaches Association convention in San Antonio, I've heard from multiple industry sources that Ducks defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt could be on the move, likely back to the NFL, where he worked from 2011 to 2014 under Jim Harbaugh with the
San Francisco 49ers. Although Leavitt has significantly upgraded Oregon's defense during his two years on staff, Ducks coach Mario Cristobal didn't hire him and might want different leadership on defense going forward. Leavitt is out
recruiting for the Ducks with no shortage of pep and Pepsi, but keep an eye on this situation. Leavitt also interviewed for head-coaching jobs at Texas Tech and Kansas State.
