Mark your calendars

This has become a great showcase and one of the premier recruiting events on the West Coast. At the inaugural Saturday Night Live two years ago we got our first glimpse of Spencer Webb, Penei Sewell, Dawson Jaramillo, Justin Johnson and Steven Jones, among others.

Fans who attend will get a chance to see the Oregon coaches working with some key targets. In past years, 2-3 commits have come out of SNL.

Scouting Herbert

Quotes from Sports Illustrated Article

“He’s so talented, he’s big time, the type of cat that goes No. 1 overall,” one AFC exec said about Herbert. “He has everything you want. … Physically, you see it with him throwing at practice—he has a hose. He’ll have a top five or six arm in the whole league coming in.”

Used to be a different body part when they said you have a "hose"...Just saying...

“If Daniel Jones can go sixth, and Daniel’s good at a lot of things, but not great in any one are, [Herbert] and Tua are both first-pick-in-the-draft type talents,” ex-NFL quarterback/Elite 11 head coach Trent Dilfer said.

Listed at 6' 6" and 233 pounds, Herbert is athletic with a big arm, and he can add more to his frame. A few criticisims: There’s some inconsistency in his accuracy at times (which teams think can be cleaned up), he’s spent his whole life in Eugene, Ore. (which has raised questions about whether or not he’s sheltered) and his personality is reserved (can he be an Alpha in the locker room?).

But overwhelmingly, there’s more good than bad here.

“He’s got traits you don’t find—a big man with twitch, he’s like Trevor Lawrence that way,” Dilfer said. “There are very few guys that size that have twitch like he does. He’s an exceptional athlete, very compact and efficient with how he moves. He’s explosive. He’s a really good thrower of the football. He’s not a great passer yet, but he can become one. There just aren’t many holes. He’s a phenomenal prospect.”

Palmer says that Herbert physically brings to the table what Josh Allen did in 2018, and he’s been a better player than the former Wyoming star. Bottom line, If Herbert stays on the course he’s been on—watch the end of the Ducks’ comeback win over Stanford last year to see Herbert at his peak—he’ll be worthy of being the first overall pick.

Rivals250 LB Martavius French talks Top 5, decision date

I recently caught up with Rivals250 Memphis, Tenn. LB Martavius French to talk about his Top Five of Arkansas, Oregon, LSU, Mississippi State and Florida. French is set to announce his decision on July 23 and my pick remains for Arkansas to land his commitment. French has said he will take official visits even after announcing a decision.

You can read the story and watch his junior film here.

Wilson took another visit to U TX

His 2d unofficial to TX. Read this on another site's free content that it's TX and UO who appear in the front running, with UW and UCLA in the mix too-- tOSU having been dropped from his list.
Instead of announcing late this Summer, he will wait til' Fall. No big surprises, I guess, but it would be nice if he announces at SNL, which I guess is still possible.

Bunkley-Shelton to Army AA game

Ducks were talking with him for a minute. Rumors of academic issues. Underscores the importance of nailing down a premier wide receiver prospect in the next couple of months. Wilson? Koy Moore? Ducks graduate Brenden Schooler and Juwan Johnson after this season.

Scott reported last week that Bunkley-Shelton was a WR who really stood out at the Five-Star Challenge.

SC has so much talent, as always. Good thing their coaching remains a train wreck. Until they hire Urban Meyer in November.
