News by way of a post on Chile ducks's board:

The Ducks are getting another Jamaican sprinter! Apparently, Kemba Nelson has committed to Oregon. She is the 100m and 200m teenage Jamaica national champion.
PRs ....100m 11.49 200m 23.47. Keep them coming!

She could be seen as a high 4 star or a low 5 star talent. I think that we will discover that she is a 5 star talent.. She is strong in two events, and anytime you get a Jamaican teenage sprint champion it is a head turner.I doubt that she will go pro right out of high school.

I want to note that Jamaican Brianna Williams is the world's fastest teenager in the 100m and 200m. Brianna did finish ahead of Kemba in the 100m, but was DQed over having a banned substance in her blood. It was later decided that it was not her fault and she may continue to race. However the DQ at the Jamaican U20 sticks, Williams is the most gifted girls' sprinter in world track history.

James West Is On Fire!

He has met the Olympic Standard, and is looking likely to represent Great Britain as an Olympian . The assumption has been that he would forego his final season in order to focus on his Olympic dreams, but this tweet might hint that he will be competing for Oregon one more time. James is one of the top hopes for Oregon both in the NCAAs and as an Olympian. If he gets to the O finals then for that one race, all I can say is Hail Britannia!...except for Go Ducks!

OT: Gale Sayers passes away

I am saddened today.

Based on the nature of my work here, I have met too many sports figures to count; hall-of-famers; Heisman Trophy winners. I have also met rock stars and movie stars. I rarely post about celebrities and their lives; I don't follow pop culture celebrity lifestyles; and there are only a few people on the planet that I would be in awe were I to meet them.

Today one of my personal heroes passed. Gale Sayers.

He was one of the few men I actively wanted to meet, just to shake his hand, maybe chat with him. His book "I Am Third" shaped much of my life. When I was at Eastern, his life approach was carried with me throughout (my former coach Greg Peterson and teammate Terry Zufelt can likely attest to this).

While he was one of the absolute greatest football players in history - he was an even better person. He lived a long, accomplished life and did more for the world than many even realize. His magnanimity will be missed; his humanity always remembered. A friend of mine shared his story today and it made me reminisce.

Today, Gale Sayers is running alongside his best friend Brian Piccolo. The Kansas Comet found its way to heaven.
