It was fun to turn the tube on to an NBA game and see two Ducks on the parquet at the Garden as Boston hosted Memphis last night. Dylan Brooks starts for the Griz while Pritchard plays quite a few minutes for the Celts. Payton had 8 points while Brooks doubled that. At one point Payton swiped a Brooks pass and laid it in on the other end.

I am no longer surprised the PP has no deer-in-the-headlights moments taking the jump from College to the pros in stride and perhaps enjoying not having to play 38 or more minutes on the court but not getting bench sores either. The fans out here are busy trying to figure out a nickname for him. 8Mile and PP Rabbit are in the running. There is a growing demand for Pritchard jerseys that are not yet available in the numbers needed.

He's taking it in stride, handling interviews calmly and intelligently, pretty much like what we saw when he was Duck. He is Team first, win second, and thanks for the complements. The word that come not only to my mind out here is "WOW"

Boise ST Coaching Search

OK...before anybody gets their panties in a bunch...I realize this is a Duck forum....lol 😇

However, I love all things college football...and coaching searches always fascinate me.

I think that Moore is the guy, but here are some other options per people with more insight than me.

And, interesting take on what really happened in the Aubrun coaching search...so they say anyway.

Stanford ... Rusty, rested, restless, or ready?

With OSU having COVID concerns on board it means Stanford has had two games in a row cancelled or postponed.

I haven't seen them play yet this year so I don't know where they started from but week or so of practice-only might have some kind of effect on them. I'm guessing they got the word in time so they didn't have to fly up, and then either get to know their hotel rooms really well or fly up again to face Oregon. I also wonder if the lack of competition for longer than usual might induce a slow start in Matt Knight in a couple of days or if they will just be wonderfully rested and ready to give Oregon a better shot than if they played the Beav's tonight.

As Shough goes so goes the offense

From our buddy Warren Williamson at ODFN.

By nature, Oregon QB Tyler Shough is as confident a player as anyone on this Duck football team.

But over the last several weeks that confidence may have waned a little which has resulted in Shough making errant throws and poor decisions while trying to decipher coverages and schemes.

For Shough it hasn’t always been pretty.

Strictly by the numbers Shough has had a good season. Through six games, Shough is completing nearly 63% of his passes ( 99 of 158 ) and has thrown for 1,480 while notching 13 touchdowns.

In the grand scheme of things, numbers aren’t always the metric by which a quarterback is, or should be measured.

It’s wins and losses.

Shough has led the Ducks to another Pac-12 crown and an invitation into a New Years Six bowl. By any standard, that’s a successful season.

Some might argue Shough’s glaring weakness is his decision making and gun slinger mentality which often times has him delivering the ball into a crowded space. Those plays have resulted in 5 interceptions – 2 of which were against Oregon State and caused game changing momentum swings.

As Shough goes, so does the Oregon offense.
When he’s playing at his best in all phases, Oregon is a tough offense to contain and stop. When he’s not, the Ducks are pedestrian and seem lackluster in their execution.

As the Ducks prepare to take on a very tough Iowa State team from the Big 12, Oregon offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead is working diligently with Shough to recapture some of that early season magic he was so apt at showing.

“That’s life,…that happens” said Moorhead when asked about some of the criticism Shough has faced over the last month.

“When you choose to play the position you willingly accept the responsibility of playing the most scrutinized position of all organized sports. Players and coaches are gonna be under that microscope and that’s just part of the job description.

One of Shoughs most commendable attributes according to Moorhead is his ability to remain focused on the task at hand and ignore the outside noise.

“His approach hasn’t changed whether its been success or some bumps in the road” said Moorhead. He’s been very consistent in his approach. Now it’s the application of things he’s been doing in practice for four straight quarters and kind of eliminate some of those hiccups that have occurred in the last few games.

We need to get him playing with confidence and being confident in his decision making and just kind of getting some of that juice and that swagger back that he had in the beginning of the year,…which he has in him. Success breeds confidence and we just need to get him back on the bike again and get him rolling.”

One item that’s often lost in the discussion about Shough is his ability to step in and run the new Oregon offense brought in by Moorhead. After two seasons as the understudy to Justin Herbert and running a completely different offense, Shough accepted the challenge head on and has shown snippets of brilliance.

“I think Tyler has developed nicely throughout the season” explained Moorhead.

“The past couple of games there’s some things we need to clean up and get better. You don’t want to get lost in the shuffle. He’s a first-year starting quarterback in a Power Five school in a brand-new offense. The AP Writers were kind enough to recognize him as an All-League selection, so that was nice for him.

He had a very solid statistical year. I’m an optimist. I’m a glass-half-full guy. I’m happy with Tyler’s progress. There are some things we’ve got to clean up. He needs to improve, absolutely. All of us do, across the board, at all positions. I think he’s very adamant and has a great work ethic in his preparation. His practice habits are good. There are just some things that during the course of the game we’ve got to clean up a little bit. But I think Tyler has played well.”

Colorado didn't help the conference much

In El Paso the Buffs got hooked severely by the 'horns' who had to use their back-up QB in the second half. He was either pretty good (if you watched the game, you saw he was) or the Pac12 team doesn't play defense very well. Unless Oregon can change minds in their bowl game, the nation is going to think the latter.
Not a big deal record wise but it'll buttress the thinking that the PAC12 deserves less consideration in next year's NC conversation unless it goes to 8 teams. I've been hoping it would do it anyway. Perhaps all the lost revenue this year will push the expansion across the line.

How dominant was Our D vs. SUC?

Per PFF, Vera-Tucker allowed 8 pressures and 2 sacks this season. Six of those pressures and both sacks came in the Pac-12 championship game vs. Oregon after he had put a dominant stat line through the first five games.

Nonetheless, he was USC's highest-graded player on either side of the ball this fall (an elite 81.8 on PFF's scale).
