Three Ducks earn Pac-12 honors

What impressed me about Brown

Completing passes to 11 different receivers is astounding. Tells us firstly that he is patient and finds the open man. Most mobile QBs are one-read & if it’s not there, get outta there. AB however, clearly went through his progressions, which will definitely keep a defense off balance.

Obviously the other thing it shows is how much time he was allowed by the OL; if he gets that much time in the pocket all season it’s going to be a very fun ride for us fans.

Game standouts...

I asked Coach Cristobal today about some standouts he saw reviewing the Ohio State film. He said these are aside from the guys who made players of the week.

“There were guys who are really worth mentioning. I’ll start with the offense. Two guys who really stood out with physicality and consistency of performance were Alex Forsyth and T.J. Bass. Those guys played with great pad level, great technique and were physical all day. To rush for that many yards against a defense like that on the road with all that noise…outstanding. It was just a great job by those guys.

“Johnny Johnson, I can’t say enough about his blocking. I mean there is one play in the game where he has a 20-yard drive block. That’s like a dream come true for an offensive linemen. The offensive linemen are jealous of Johnny today. He had the best block of all of them.

“Travis Dye, I know CJ got the bulk of the carries, but Travis had 43 yards. He had the catch. He had the touchdown. He ran physical as well. I can’t say enough about his blocking in the passing game. I don’t know if you noticed in the passing game, but the pocket was a lot more comfortable for the quarterback. It was a lot bigger and wider. There was a lot less penetration. Tremendous improvement in that area.

“On defense, guys who really stood out. Bradyn Swinson, who really played his tail off. A guy who was relentless in his pass rush, even though he didn’t always get there, he did affect the quarterback. In the run-game, he did a really good job of striking blockers and getting off blocks, playing the C area, taking on tight ends and folding that running back.

“I thought Keyon Ware-Hudson played really well. He’s credited with three tackles. I can’t tell you how many times his block destruction showed up on tape. He played with great pad level he knocked the line of scrimmage back. He did an excellent job. Nate Heaukalani played 59 snaps and was on point. He was where he needed to be. He forced the QB out on the fourth down play deep in our red zone, where Adrian Jackson then pressured the quarterback and he had to get rid of the ball. I thought he really stood out.

“Then Karsten Battles and Sua’ava (Poti). They presented some challenges to our punt protection. Sua’ava did a great job of checking us into a formation which we could take on that interior overload rush. Our punt coverage was outstanding, and he was a big reason why. Not many snappers get down there and cover the field, he certainly did.”

Who's running it?

When you look at football programs , this is the question. The Ducks on top of the Pac 12 because they have an absolute stud running the show. Great recruiter. Great culture. Great leader. Hard nosed and genuine as hell in recruits living rooms. USC and Washington should be really good every year. They aren't because they have a clown show for their respective head coaches. So who looks good besides the Ducks? UCLA and Stanford look like the next best teams to me. David Shaw and Chip Kelly. The best two coaches in the PAC 12 this side of Mario Cristobal. Its no accident why Oregon at the top and UCLA and Stanford being next in line. I I admit enjoy watching USC and Washington struggle. However, if the Pac 12 wants to really get to the top, or at least in the conversation with the SEC, Washington and USC have to get rid of these pretenders, and bring in some big time coaches. It would make it tougher on the Ducks, but that's OK. Duck program still trending up,...up....,up. Very young and just getting started

Fifth Quarter: Ohio State

It's back! Sorry about last week all, but 16 hours of driving after an emotional day with my son's wedding did not make for a lot of free time. There is absolutely nothing earth shattering today. But here we go:

Last Nonconference, Top 5 Road Wins

According to The Athletic:

By Conference

SEC: 1991, Tennessee at Notre Dame

ACC: 1999, Florida State at Florida

Big Ten: 2006, Michigan at Notre Dame

Big 12: 2017, Oklahoma at Ohio State

Most Recent Overall

2017, Oklahoma at Ohio State

2011, Oklahoma at Florida State

2009, Houston at Oklahoma State

2007, Appalachian State at Michigan*

*Which means that 2007, Oregon at Michigan didn't have a chance to make the list

I NEED TO EAT CROW!!!

OH so many things I need to acknowledge! First and foremost this team is good. What we saw last week was a team that was looking ahead IMO. I was all over the OL and QB. Did not like what I saw, this Saturday, watching from the nosebleed seats in the shoe I saw what this team can be if focused. I need to apologize to the team. I know AB did a wonderful job in managing the offense, but I have one caveat, a less than 50% completion rate will not carry us through the season IMO. It was the defense and OL that won this game and for so long it was a dream to beat tosu (pun intended), so now I can die happy! AB did contribute to the run game and it was pivotal in the win, just bothers me about that less than 50% completion rate. Enough rambling, I'll shut up for now.

Did anyone else notice our offense was

Not predictable. Of course you did, but It was sure nice to see Moorhead in action. This is what we had all hoped for. The balance was amazing. He worked the whole field. I love an offensive coordinator who is willing to run the same play until it's stopped. The run and pass catch to the left going untouched for a TD was a thing of beauty. Ohio St is still talking about it... haha

Ducks jump to No. 4 in AP and coaches polls

EUGENE, Ore. — On the strength of Saturday’s historic win at Ohio State, the Oregon football team moved up to No. 4 in both the Associated Press and USA Today AFCA Coaches polls on Sunday morning.

The Ducks were among the biggest risers in the AP poll, jumping up eight spots from No. 12. Oregon moved up seven spots in the coaches poll from No. 11.

It is the first top-five ranking in both polls for Oregon since finishing the 2019 season as the consensus No. 5 team in the country. No. 4 is UO’s highest AP regular-season ranking since coming in at No. 3 in December 2014, and the Ducks are in the top five of the coaches poll in the regular season for the first time since September 2015.

UO is the highest ranked Pac-12 team in the AP poll, and one of two in the top 15 along with No. 13 UCLA. Arizona State is also in the top 25 at No. 19.

Oregon’s win over then-No. 3 Ohio State on Saturday was the program’s…

» First-ever win over Ohio State.

» Sixth-ever victory over a top-three team, and first since 2011.

» First road win over a top-five team since beating Stanford in 2011.

» Ninth all-time win over a top-five opponent.

The Ducks will return to Autzen Stadium this week to host Stony Brook on Saturday (4:30 p.m., Pac-12 Network) before opening Pac-12 play at home against Arizona on Sept. 25.
