Could this happen with the NIL?

Some thoughts on the NIL. Although I think its right that players profit from their likeness, there are obviously going to be some programs who can take more advantage these rules. The Ducks could be right at the top, which is good, but overall I don't like that the playing field will be even less level. I'm sure they will change or add rules as it goes, but here one of my questions. What is going to stop a Nike or other companies from signing kids to large contracts that would allow them to walk-on rather than take up a scholarship? This would allow teams to sign top prospects to the walk on program and sign more players every year?

My son was a walk-on at Oregon so I think it would be great if companies hired walk-ons. Maybe even as a group. Of course they would not get the KT type money but it would be great to see these kids getting a couple grand a month, or whatever to help them out. Maybe doing group commercials for local companies or whatever. Would like to see this happen , but would not like to see it go the extreme of my question above. Even though the Ducks would be one of the haves, it would be really bad for at least half the college football programs

Devon Jackson and Samuel M'Pemba...

Two big time players both very interested in Oregon. How are they connected? I have been DM'ing back and forth with both for the last two days trying to set up an interview.

What that means is that they both are very interested in Oregon. Recruits don't engage like that if they are not.

Beat Cal

At this point, it doesn’t do much good to focus on our coaching frustrations. Mario has another game coming up. I want to see Oregon beat Cal. A lot of players and recruits and parents read our posts.

Mario has some injured players and at least for now has a missing Coordinator. The football team doesn’t need any more negativity this week. I am going to be positive and supportive of Mario for the next 13 days…. If not for the team then at least for my own peace of mind.

Beat Cal! Go Ducks!

Sharing Reactions From Santa Cruz

For those of you who don’t know, Santa Cruz is not in the Bay Area. It is kind of or almost in the Bay Area, but it has a slight separation.

Yesterday I watched the the Santa Cruz County/Monterey County local ABC affiliate news, hoping to catch the local media reaction to the Oregon/Stanford game. Our local sports news is really good. They covered the day of sports and especially major league baseball in depth, but never mentioned anything about the Stanford Oregon game.

Tiered and feeling down from Oregon’s OT loss, I decided to get “take out” food from a local Mexican Restaurant. When I picked up my food the restaurant’s hostess asked if I had a good day. I explained that I was kind of down because my team lost a close football game. She asked which team? I told her the Oregon Ducks. She replied that the only thing that she knew about the University of Oregon was that they have a “great” track program. She went on to say that she loves the new Hayward Field and thinks that Oregon track is just “awesome”. She also raved about the Olympic Trials and other major meets hosted at the UO. She was obviously talking to the right person!

Those two experiences kind of helped to put college football back into perspective … at least for an hour. God Bless Oregon Track!

Ducks will fall in polls closer to where they belong

Things always are a little better than the next day after a very disappointing one. I couldn't sleep well last night cuz I was upset about the way the Ducks played, and of course the referees on that fourth quarter drive of Stanford's were very one-sided.

But the thing is, the ducks are not the number three team in the nation or anywhere close. They are somewhere between 10 and 15 and that might even be generous. They have a lot of things to fix, and without a quarterback playing at least above average, they're going to lose another couple games.

But regardless, I have decided to just sit back and enjoy the good parts of this year, and let the frustrating parts go. I'm really hoping that this coaching staff improves in its play calling and clock management. That would help me sleep better on nights like last night where I'm tossing and turning.

Predict-a-score: Oregon at Stanford

Often times I have deferred to the toughness in the trenches of Stanford but not this year. While they have not shown it every game, the Ducks are just as good or better on both lines. And I think the Ducks are better at almost all the other positions. Will they execute? We shall see. They haven't done it for a full game all season. When they put it together, they are going to be dangerous.

But for this weekend, Oregon will have just as good or better line play and better speed all around.

Oregon 42 - Stanford 23

What effect will this game have?

I see a football season as a moving picture. Teams evolve over the corse of a season. Coaches and players can grow and learn from their experiences, or they can develop morale problems and lose heart. Oregon still has a lot of talent . Could this game have a motivating influence?

I like Joe Morehead. I hope that he is going to be alright and back with the team soon. The team could have used his play calling today. He seems like a good guy in interviews. My thoughts are with him and his family.

No conference champ has gone undefeated....

....since we did it over a decade ago.

I didn't expect Oregon to do it this year, did anyone?

The team has a chance to make this the one. The one loss they were "likely" to get on their way to another title. Of course we now need Stanford to lose twice....shit.

Well, it could be done by this team but they need to change a whole lot very soon.

Let's go Ducks.
