36-offer 2023 Alabama DE Hunter Osborne wants to visit Oregon

In an update interview with Rivals, 2023 Alabama DE Hunter Osborne updates his recent visits and lays out a plan for his offseason. One of the visits he wants to take is to Oregon.

Cardwell: Oregon's next great RB?

If you're wondering how good BC might be, have a look at how his first 50-ish carries compares to Oregon's recent greats.

LMJ: 59 carries, 348 yds, 2 TDs, 5.9.
Snoop: 50 carries, 188 yds, 6 TDs, 3.5.
Freeman: 50 carries, 272 yds, 5 TDs, 5.4
Barner: 50 carries, 269 yds, 3 TDs, 5.4

Byron Cardwell: 54 carries, 398 yds, 3 TDs, 7.4

If he stays healthy, BC is gonna be really good. 🤪

Snoop with 6 TDs but just 188 yds...was he a goal line RB his 1st year? I don't remember it that way but....I'm old and forgetful.

USC and UW Coaching Carousel...Just for Fun

So...just for fun, I'm trying to guess who might be the new FB coaches at USC and UW next year.

I'm saying that MC is going nowhere.

USC: Luke Fickell, though Kyle Whittingham is my dark horse. I cannot see any Big Time coaches heading to
USC other than maybe Franklin from PSU. Is USC a much better job than PSU?

Campbell from Iowa State would be interesting.

UW: Ouch! Once again I don't see any BIg Time coaches coming out to Seattle. I don't think that Peterson comes back. Justin Wilcox or Jonathon Smith will get a lot of press, but the Huskies need a home run here and I don't think that either of those guys are home runs.

Moorhead is getting some press but I don't think that he will make the donors happy either.

Campbell to UW?

Now, the Fresno coach is interesting, Kaelen DeBoer and he would jump at the chance, but is he high profile enough?

I really cannot see UW hiring some up-and-coming coordinator this time around. They need some star power. Good luck with that.

Other openings in the PAC should not pose an issue for USC and UW. However, I gotta figure that UW gets USC's leftovers.

Most of the "hot" names out there are from the East or South. Guys like Franklin, Napier, Aranda, etc. They might go to USC but UW? I doubt it. Would Aranda leave Baylor for a West Coast job?

Another problem for these two teams is that the LSU and (possibly), Florida and/or Miami jobs may open up. Gotta figure the aforementioned coaches have to look at LSU as a better job than USC these days. And if Florida and Miami are open...well, that puts a lot more pressure on USC and UW.

Also, if one of the aforementioned coaches takes, say, the LSU job, then that opens up another spot. Say that Franklin goes to LSU, then PSU is open. Is that job more attractive than UW. I'd say so.

If LSU can pull a rabbit out of a hat and get Lincoln Riley, then the SEC-bound Sooners position would open up and that would take another coaching candidate out of the pool.

If LSU pulls Mel Tucker then MSU opens up but I think that UW and USC can compete with that. (Would we call him Mel Taggert if he leaves MSU?)

If Jimbo goes to LSU then TAMU opens up...not sure UW can compete with that but USC could.

I guess USC could get back Orgeron...lol.

It could be very possible that in this game of musical chairs, UW and maybe even USC may be without a seat at the Hot Coaches table when the music stops.

As long as they leave MC alone, I love this stuff.

Any thoughts.

Eternal Sunshine and the Restless Mind

It is worth a moment to consider the daily forum dialogues as in chiaroscuro brushstrokes. The alternating contretemps of optimism and pessimism nuanced by what expressions fall in between are as informing and entertaining as in any gallery. And what we say and how we color our critique of the art, or imitation thereof we see played out at Autzen really does identify us. Some view it as Norman Rockwell, others, Edmund Munch, very few as Hieronymus Bosch. We come at it from all directions.

So then, what we've seen this year has all been as from the eye of the beholder. To some here, Mario has created a masterpiece for which we should be thankful, if not rapturously in defense of. Others accept his work as a blemished, if not uncompleted work in progress. Both command respect in how we respond as mutual critics when all of us want nothing but the painter's success. It may be useful to keep this in mind when veins pop and fingers twitch at comments that offend our precious genius of observation and opinion. Be nice,.

The only perfection that we can identify and know when we see or hear it is the perfect asshole.

Cristobal post-OS quotes...

OPENING STATEMENT

CRISTOBAL: Really proud and excited for our guys. It’s an excited locker room because coming into this game we had to earn every single play. We had to earn the victory against a good football team with a lot of good football players after a rough week. We had to regroup quickly and get right to work and start fast and do a good job up front and control the line of scrimmage. We jumped out strong. Credit to them, obviously, they fought and played really well. They made some plays and made it a little tighter in the second half but all in all I’m just proud of our guys for taking control of the game in the most critical moments and earning the opportunity to play a 13th game.

Q. What were your thoughts on the team’s resolve this week?

CRISTOBAL: Well it was a rough plane ride back last week. We talked about it earlier in the week. When you go through something like that, you have to look in the mirror and you have to dig deep and regroup quickly. Our team leadership did a good job with that. I thought the coaching staff did a great job with that as well. The scheme was good. The adjustments were good. Guys played at a high level. They made the decision to have 11 guys play as one, played with great effort, executed at a high level and finished knowing that you’re going to have to earn it knowing that these rivalry games are - you’re never out of it. Whether you’re leading or behind you’re never out of it and you see it. You see it all over the country and you saw it on our field today. Really good job by the football team and a lot to build off of, the momentum to build off of that. We have a couple injuries. I don’t think there is anything too bad, nothing too serious. I think all the guys checked out fairly well in the initial check that I did. But certainly I’ll get any extra information on that to you ASAP.

Q. What did you think of Anthony’s performance today and this week?

CRISTOBAL: Well, I mean, I think it speaks for itself. He ran the ball 14 times for 83 yards and a touchdown, 23-for-28 throwing with 275 yards, 2 touchdowns. Showed tremendous command, tremendous leadership, resolve, resiliency. He had a strong week of practice. The gameplan was pretty extensive because [Oregon State] is pretty complicated on defense with what they do with their stunts, their blitzes, their stems - which we were told when they stem like that they were going to call a penalty, they didn’t - but anyway with all the stuff they do we made sure we gave Anthony our very best. We were 10-for-13 on third downs if I’m not mistaken. Just a great performance by a great team leader.

Q. How would you assess the play of Devon Williams and Kris Hutson, especially with the loss of other receivers this season?

CRISTOBAL: Yeah, they stepped up big time. They were targeted 16 times today, and I think 13 times they came up with it. Devon with a monster play early in the game. On a play that was a little improvised there with Anthony [Brown] getting out of the pocket, finding him, then launching it down the field. Some big plays by Kris, on critical third downs, particularly that last one that put us up by three scores. I think it was a third and eight or something of that nature, and still getting better and still having room for improvement, but they are just hungry. Coach [Bryan McClendon] has done a great job with those guys, they get after it. They are diligent, they are hungry, they are driven and they see so much room for improvement. The fact that this offense can keep getting better and better it was a really good performance today by those guys, and a lot to build off of.
