AP AA TEAMS 1-3

Tell me Sewell isn't even 3d team? Otherwise, the usual for us. 2 consensus AA's on D. Not bad for a school known for what was it, OL's?
3d team LB's include a guy from Army, which AJ will love, and one from Wyoming. I'm sorry, but I don't see how they get on the field w/ Sewell on the roster. Oh well, next year, 1st team.

Reading the TROJAN WIRE Today

Man...they really have a bad case of Duck envy.

Multiple articles on the Ducks' coaching situation. Every article, if not purely about the Trojans ...is about the Ducks.

It seems that the Trojans consider the Ducks their biggest rival these days.

Here is a Trojan take on our new hire. Prolly pretty accurate but it sure seems arrogant to me.

Patrick Mahomes drew legitimate Hall of Fame buzz just a few years into his NFL career thanks to a record-breaking start as the Chiefs' starting quarterback. But there's another AFC West signal-caller who's off to an even better statistical start to his career. With three touchdown passes in the Chargers' blowout win over the Giants on Sunday, second-year QB Justin Herbert eclipsed 30 scoring passes on the year, making him the first player in NFL history to throw at least 30 scores in each of his first two seasons.
That's right. Literally no one had ever topped 30 TD passes in their first two seasons before Herbert pulled it off on Sunday. Not even Mahomes would qualify if you removed his "redshirt" rookie year; he exploded for 50 TDs in 2018 but had just 26 the following year. The NFL has grown increasingly pass-heavy in recent decades, so it's not necessarily a feat that'll prove unbreakable. (Even Peyton Manning's record for scoring connections with a single pass target, which he deemed eternal upon retirement in 2015, is now under fire from Tom Brady.) But it proves just how far Herbert has come in a short amount of time.

Widely considered a polarizing selection by Los Angeles at No. 6 overall in 2020, the Oregon product won Offensive Rookie of the Year in his NFL debut, breaking the rookie record for TD passes with 31 and becoming just the fourth rookie QB in league history to top 4,000 passing yards. This year, Herbert has been just as good, if not better, for an 8-5 Chargers team vying for its first playoff appearance in three seasons. Through 13 games, he's got a nearly identical completion percentage and is already approaching 4,000 yards, with 30 TDs and 11 picks.

Let’s talk about the rest of the staff

Matt Luke is the current Co-OC at UGA and is a very good OL coach so that wouldn’t hurt my feelings if he came along as Running Game coordinator/ Co-OC / Oline. Tosh was on the 2015 Bama staff and Ken Wilson just left so Tosh as DC/LB coach would be nice. Donte Williams did a decent job at SC so I’d be ok with him and Tosh having some sort of Co-DC title. Big Joe and Bobby Williams probably stay. Mastero can go ahead and go with Wilson back to Nevada. B-Mac is a question mark.

Monday matters

The overarching theme that many people are using to read between the lines on what the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that the deal for Dan Lanning would be announced Monday is the 'Moby Dick' theory that an NFL coach might still be on the table.

While I suppose that could be true, there is another reality at play here. When did the position officially open? Monday, December 6.

This coming Monday is exactly 7 days. Why does that matter? I was going off of something I heard when talking about a 10 day posting window for state jobs. Turns out, that is not accurate.

A little research shows that ORS 240.306(2) says the Department of Administrative Services shall set the rules for "adequate public notice" for state jobs. But the law itself does not state what that time frame is. For that you have to go to DAS HR Policy Memo 40.010.02 (2019) which reads (in part)

(1) Recruitments

d) Hiring agencies shall post a job opportunity for a minimum seven calendar days when filling vacancies through an internal or external recruitment process using the Oregon Jobs page.

So. There you have it. Why would Oregon athletic department push back on this report from AJC? Because it has not yet been seven days.

Does that mean it is 100% Lanning is the guy? No. But I think that, unless something changes in the next 60 hours or so, Monday will, in fact, bring Lanning on as the next head football coach for Oregon.

Correct Me If I'm Wrong

I believe Oregon has the highest salary in the PAC-12 for assistant coaches. My observations are not based on the results just tonight's game but what I've watched throughout the season. Moorehead and DeRuyter should be replaced. With such a high salary pool for OCs and DCs, coupled with the talent we have recruited over the MC era, there is simply no excuse for the overall performance displayed by this team. Tonight's results are simply a culmination of under achievement for the amount of talent on the roster (not field).

Oregonian on Danny

I have cut and pasted it because it is a subscriber deal...I don't often do that but in this case...

EUGENE — Hours after hiring Dan Lanning to be Oregon’s next head coach Ducks athletic director Rob Mullens spoke directly to fans about their new head coach.

“His track record of success, he’s got an incredible work ethic, just about in every phase of importance of leadership and then when you get a chance to talk to him he just exudes energy,” Mullens said shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday to an audience of over 600 listeners on the Oregon fan-led Twitter spaces, a live group chat feature on the social media app. “Obviously we do deep dives on background checks and talking to people and everywhere we turned it was, ‘what a wonderful human being.’ He values the student-athlete experience, the relationships and then obviously you can look at the historic defenses that he’s been a part of and see what kind of coach he is.”

Mullens, who isn’t on Twitter, used his wife’s Twitter account to enter the Twitter spaces forum where Oregon fans have discussed Oregon’s coaching search around the clock since Mario Cristobal’s departure on Monday.

The audience steadily grew over the course of the week and has included current and former players, player parents, athletic department personnel, local and national media members, UO coaches and even Dan Lanning’s brother, Jordan, who shared anecdotal stories with an audience of over 1,600 people Friday night amid reports of the Georgia defensive coordinator’s candidacy at Oregon.

The parents of several players were in the audience Saturday night, including the mothers of defensive end Bradyn Swinson (Kelli Swinson) and Keith Brown (Sarah Brown) and running back Byron Cardwell Jr.’s father, who all thanked Mullens for his work this week.

“What a great forum for parents, all these loyal Duck followers to jump on,” Mullens said. “Want to to say really appreciate everyone’s support over the last week. It’s great to see the Oregon family come together, the student-athletes, the parents. Really excited for coach Lanning to get here.

“Excited for all of our student-athletes. I received a lot of messages of support and this is a special, special group of young men who’ve built an incredible culture, who’ve really stuck together and I‘m really anxious for them to meet coach Lanning in person and to continue what they’ve built here.”

With their next head coach in place the fans in the Twitter space were already shifting their attention to who will be on Lanning’s staff, particularly on offense. Mullens deferred to Lanning for those decisions but said staffing was part of the interview process and Lanning has a clear plan and vision in mind.

“When you spend time with him he’s given this a lot of thought for a lot of years,” Mullens said. “He’s been planning for this opportunity and it just matched up. I am fully confident based on the relationships, the thoughtfulness and the connections that he has that he’s going to assemble a phenomenal staff.”

Hypothetically Speaking, Oregon hires new Coordinators who are they?

Just to spitball some names for the hell of it.

Offensively
If Tom Herman doesn’t get a HC gig his offenses have been decent.

Robert Anae is a west coaster with PAC 12 experience that might be looking for a job. UVA was 3rd in total offense.

Greg Stevens is an Oregon guy (Eastern Oregon grad) that has lead SE Louisiana to having one of the most prolific offenses in FCS.

Brett Elliot from Linfield might not be OC material but he’s a heck of a QB Coach.

Defensively
Bronco Mendenhall, Jimmy Lake, and Coach O are out of jobs and all have PAC 12 experience.

Zach Arnett and Todd Orlando are guys they’ve thought of in the past that could be looking for better situations.

While Brett Elliot might not be quite ready Joseph Smith from Linfield has pretty much accomplished everything at that level and historically runs a very sound defense.

I doubt they’d leave but BYU’s Llaisa Tuiaki and Boise’s Spencer Danielson are both pretty solid coordinators.

Who else?
