A little nugget from the weekend

I did not want this to get out on Twitter or other socials, so I did not mention it last week. I was told by multiple people last week that a certain UO alum and Fortune 500 business founder would be in Eugene this weekend.

My understanding is that this did - in fact - happen this time. I know fans from other schools think he is Oregon's version of John Ruiz, but he's not. He is not haphazardly throwing money around to buy players, but as I said about Harbor (and Pleasant) there are two HS football players who have 'earned' decent NIL deals as track athletes based on their performances thus far. The philanthropist was more excited to talk about the new science building and share a vision with Harbor and his family.

Harbor wants a course of study that would be good for moving toward a medical program in the future (some call it a Pre Med major, but that is a sort of misnomer, Pre Med is an area of focus not a major at most schools), the science department has seen a big boost with the new Knight Center and that was very appealing to Harbor and everyone who made the trip with him.

Rodrick Pleasant’s high school teammate commits to Oregon

Our latest TRAAAACK, Brazil Neal, is a high school track athlete at Serra High School in Gardena CA. She and Rodrick compete in the same events. They obviously know each other well.

I don’t know if this timing is coincidental or if they are a package deal like Thomas Graham and Jasmine Reed…. but when we talk about Rodrick having a friend from Serra that is committing to USC… well USC we meet your Serra teammate and raise you a coed Serra teammate … So who has the better hand?

Brazil picked Oregon over USC…click on below and see. So Oregon can’t compete with USC for Serra recruits? 🤔 the answer is blowing in the wind.

BRONNY JAMES TO OREGON?

Maybe.

From Bleacher Report:

Bronny James is the last top 50 player in the 2023 high school class to make his college decision.
It appears we won't be waiting much longer.
Luca Evans of the Los Angeles Times reported James has narrowed his choices to Ohio State, USC and Oregon and will make a final determination at the end of Sierra Canyon's season.
All three schools are obvious fits, albeit for different reasons. Ohio State would allow Bronny to carve the collegiate legacy his father never did, going back to his birth state to play for the Buckeyes. LeBron James has said on multiple occasions that he would have attended Ohio State if he would have been forced to play a year of college basketball before entering the NBA.

The Los Angeles Lakers star recently told Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times that he feels like an "honorary" Ohio State alumni.
USC would allow Bronny James to stay home in Los Angeles while playing college basketball, giving him the advantage of high-level basketball and comfort. The James family has spent nearly all of their time in Los Angeles since LeBron signed with the Lakers in 2018 and split time between L.A. and Ohio during his tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
If Bronny wants to remain close to his family, USC should be considered the favorite.

Oregon, however, is an interesting wild card that may have the biggest trump card of all: Nike money. Bronny James signed an NIL deal with Nike last October, and Oregon counts Nike founder Phil Knight as its biggest booster. If blazing his own path is what Bronny wants from his college experience, he could choose Oregon to expand his horizons outside the home (while staying on the West Coast) and avoid the potential shadow LeBron leaves in Ohio basketball lore.
Ohio State and USC also have apparel deals with Nike.
Bronny James is the No. 36 player in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.

Recent Washington decommit Jaxson Jones has committed to Oregon after his weekend visit with the Ducks, according to his father. Jones has amassed an impressive offer list since the fall with schools like USC, Notre Dame, Michigan and Utah all in the picture. He is a standout edge rusher and should continue to see his stock rise as he gains more attention. Another Arizona win for the Ducks.

Pac-12 Networks financial mess

The stuff is hitting the fan at the PAC-12 Networks. Buddies Jon and John both have lengthy articles out about the situation.

Long reads, but I find the inner workings of the network fascinating.

Jon Wilner article.

Allegedly, it was found under audit that Comcast overpaid the PAC-12.
