Big Sports Weekend at the UO

Although I had four tickets to the track and field Diamond League’s ultimate championships, I was not able to attend.
I actually spent my limited time watching the football game from home and have seen very little of the track.

I just want to emphasize the obvious truth that our university is a BIG time sports entertainment center. To have two sell out events happening simultaneously on the Oregon campus is impressive. Good luck finding a hotel room in Eugene this weekend!

Track and Field is an international sport. The entire track fan world is focused this weekend on Eugene, while just a short walk away another stadium was packed for another sport…. All in little Eugene!

New Assistant Sprint/jumps coach at UO

She has a doctorate in human physiology from Oregon. Apparently, she is great at biomechanics. This is further evidence that although Schumacher is a distance coach, he will continue to keep Oregon competitive in the sprints and jumps. I like it!

DSA Roundtable: Setting the stage for Oregon-Hawaii

Here is the latest DSA Roundtable with Scott and Brandon breaking down today's matchup against Hawaii for the Ducks. Great stuff as always from Scott and Brandon, so make sure to check it out!

Flock Talk: Age of Ohana

The Age of Ohana:

In the heart of Honolulu, where the vibrant culture of Hawaii thrived beneath the watchful gaze of Diamond Head, a story of Ohana echoed through the generations like the rhythm of the ocean waves. It was a tale of unity, belonging, and pride, transcending time, and place. While there is some debate about the history of the word and its meaning, it is, nonetheless, a very important concept today regarded as a core concept in Hawaiian culture.

The significance of Ohana, the Hawaiian word for family, extended far beyond blood ties. It encompassed the bond that connected the people of Hawaii to their land, their traditions, and their love for all things – and that has extended to football. Football is more than just a game in modern Polynesian culture; it is a symbol of this bond.

DSA Inside Read: 3-2-1 look at Texas Tech win🗣

1. Do you know what you have?

At this point there are a lot more questions than answers. The running game looked below average. Some of that is due to really good inside pressure by the Texas Tech defensive tackles, but some of that is also poor run blocking by the offensive line – especially on the interior where too often players were getting hit in the backfield.

Defensively, we saw that Oregon had worked hard and showed much better pass rush, but it came at the expense of some big runs by the quarterback. Given who the Ducks will have to face this season, that is a critical area which needs a lot of improvement.
