Legislature Contemplates Liability Protection from Angry NIL Recipients

Pretty crazy how this is written. Paid for content in the O, but here's a couple clips.

The proposed bill to amend Oregon’s state law regarding college athlete name, image and likeness (NIL) compensation contains ambiguous language in its liability protection for colleges and universities and their employees and lacks an “enforcement mechanism” for the state if the NCAA were to violate it, according to the state Legislature’s legislative counsel.
********************
HB 4119 would prevent college athletes in the state from suing schools or their employees for “any damages” to their ability to earn NIL compensation due to “any decision or action” made by the school or employee considered to be “routinely taken” in college sports or pertaining to the identification, facilitation, enabling or supporting of NIL opportunities for the athlete.

An opinion letter on the bill doesn't think it will work. Back to the drawing board.

The Dance

Duck play at 4:00 out here today on TRUTV.

Colorado got though the first four last night in a game where it looked like neither team had practiced layups before. Their 3 pt attempts were way less than impressive. I think the Buffs got the only win they are going to get but PAST12 is 1-0 for now. I'd like to see them take down the Gators but they'll have to put a different team on the floor to do it.

'He's ready now': How touted Oregon football receiver Jurrion Dickey attacked offseason

Now it's Dickey's turn, at least per offensive coordinator Will Stein.

With CU and WSU Winning the P12 is 5/0 SO Far

Me thinks the confr was underrated this year.

"The Pac-12 improved to 5-0 in the NCAA Tournament with Colorado's win. Pac-12 Tournament champion Oregon knocked off South Carolina 87-73 in an 11-over-6 win on Thursday. 2-seed Arizona handled business in an 85-65 win over 15-seed Long Beach State, and 7-seed Washington State continued its magical season with a 66-61 victory over 10-seed Drake."

New CFP deal coming soon

Makes the move to the B1G look all that more important, as in 2026, Oregon looks like they'll get ~21 million a year, rather than the usual ~5.5 million under the old deal

EUGENE — A potential reunion of Dana Altman and longtime Oregon assistant coach Tony Stubblefield is still very much on the table.

Stubblefield, who was fired as DePaul’s head coach in January, attended the Pac-12 tournament to watch Oregon play last week.

“We’re still talking a lot but I was really glad that he called and said, ‘Hey I’m going to come watch you guys, I want to be part of it,’” Altman said. “He was such a big part of our program for 11 years. I love Tony’s work ethic, he’s a heck of a basketball coach and I hope he feels this is the right fit for him because I’d really like to work with him again.

“You take a chance saying that publicly because then if he doesn’t come you look like a fool but I don’t care; I mean I am a fool so what the hell. I’m just saying he’s really good and whatever he decides to do he’s going to be really successful because he works his tail off and he is a basketball guy. I hope he feels that this is the right fit for him and if he does I’d love to work with him again."

Stubblefield helped Oregon sign five top-12 recruiting classes during his 11 seasons working for Altman. He helped recruit Troy Brown Jr., Bol Bol, Louis King and Payton Pritchard.

Three of Oregon’s full-time assistant coaches have contracts that expire this offseason, including at the end of this month for Louis Rowe. Brian Fish, who returned to the coaching staff after serving as Oregon’s executive director/director of basketball operations last season and was an assistant at UO from 2010-14, is signed through June, as is 10-year assistant Mike Mennenga.

Director of player development Kevin McKenna was also a longtime assistant for Altman and worked with Stubblefield and Oregon’s fifth designated on-court coach this season is director of operations Scott McByrne.
