Expect some good news on a 3-Star Safety

2017 three-star Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral safety Rhedi Short, a former UCLA commit, is slated to commit in July but there will be some good news on the horizon in the coming days. For what I can say, Oregon is a school Short feels comfortable at and he's got a strong relationship with defensive backs coach John Neal.

"It's pretty good, I talk to him often," Short told Rivals on Sunday of Neal. "He seems like a real laid back coach and I think he can make me into an even better football player than I am. But most importantly it's that I feel comfortable with them that is why they are where they're at with me."

day 3 Trials

I've been busy and haven't able to find time to post.
I'm at the Trials for every session.
Today was great. There was disapointment and thrills. It comes with the sport.
English Gardner made the team today by dominating the100. Prandini finished a disappointing 5th. Ariana Washington finished 6th . Washington, Prandini and Stevens can still make the team in the 200. Washington and Prandini are also strong candidates for making the 4x100 relay pool.

The huge positive was the women's 400! Phylis Francis, one of my all time favorite Ducks is going to Rio. She finished an impressive 2nd in the 400. So she will run in the 400 and the 4x4000 relay.

Ashton Eaton dominated and to no ones surprise is heading to Rio.

QUAACK

A tweet earlier tonight from 2016 2-star Brenden Schooler seems to indicate he signed a FAA today. The tea leaves point to potential truth - i.e., both John Neal and Helfrich are following him. Looking closely at the picture there is what appears to be a FAA on his desk.

If true, it is a bit out of the blue, but we are reaching out to him to try and get more information; though I am sure he has been inundated with questions.

For a safety, he has very good speed 100/200/400 times this year of 10.76/21.92/50.76

Self Doubt, Self Actualization, and Covering Oregon Football

So, tonight I composed some (not short) thoughts. Last week I was gone off the grid for three days. No phone; no contact with the outside world. This was pre-planned solitude.

Prior to this, though, I had been taking inventory of many things, and some of this included seeking out those criticisms not often spoken of. They were not difficult to find and these were my thoughts on the experience of confronting (in myself) those criticisms and partially a response to some inaccurate thoughts.

Anyway, it is like 1200 words long so rather than inundate a post here with such thoughts, I put them on my blog:

Flock Talk: Family Affair

Today in Flock Talk I *gulp* praise the NCAA for their newest rule about to take effect (August 1) which allows up to FOUR members of a family to have their visits paid with an official visit. I think that this can have a very good impact for Oregon. I also share my thoughts on the week in recruiting, including some thoughts on the newest commit

I thought we might get a DB commit at the end of June, was just WAAAAAAY off on who it might be! LOL!

Also, for the older crowd, hope you enjoy the Buffy/Jody/Mr. French reference. For the younguns, sorry for using old guy references! I will try to work in a Game Of Thrones reference soon!

John Vaka...

I was checking out the freshman highlights for John Vaka. I can see why Greatwood offered the JC player. Great feet, great motor and very athletic in his ability to lead block downfield. He will arrive in Eugene with a lot more playing time under his belt than most freshmen OL get. He doesn't seem overly big but has plenty of frame to work with. I would expect three-stars for him based on his freshman film but I can't speak for the Rivals analysts.

Top Trio: DB Commit?

Today I took a look at the three most likely to be the next commit among the DB group. I know what Lars said about Short, but I am still not convinced.

What I posted as the story is my belief about what could happen and the order of most likely next to commit. I do not know whether the coaches would or have decided to take only one of the two of Short/Douglas... that is a bit of speculation based on the numbers we believe will be taken in this class and our own projection of which prospects are 'must take' and which ones will not have a spot held.

More musings: OL Style

So, with the commitments of Vorhees and now Honigford, two players who, at different times, were thought to once be leaning Oregon's direction, it seems the OL recruiting this year is a bit 'odd' in comparison to normal years.

Early on, all seemed straightforward and Alijah Vera-Tucker was one of the early offers for the Ducks (last October). The Duck coaches were in constant contact and it seemed almost a foregone conclusion to some that he would be a Duck.

Then, contact stopped. He was left scratching his head as were many people. While it would be great to sit here and proclaim that our thoughts are 'almighty truths' always emanating from inside sources, the truth is, that sometimes there is a bit of guess work involved. When we see new offers going out to offensive linemen and contact stopping to another, speculation makes it seem clear that something has either changed, or our initial interpretations might have been inaccurate.

When we put our thoughts on the board, it is by no means meant as some sort of gospel in every occasion. When it comes to Vera-Tucker, we are about as enlightened about his recruiting has he - that is to say that we know not much more than him. I think it seemed clear that the coaches liked Vorhees a bit more. I think the offer to Honigford makes it appear as if maybe that was someone the coaches liked better.

What we really do not know is why contact stopped with Vera-Tucker. But that is what he told the Oregonian some time ago.

We originally projected that the Ducks would take 3 or 4 OL this class and it seems as if maybe the Ducks are aiming for the low side of that number. they have a couple already with Forsyth and Vaka, with at least one more spot to fill.

The longer this plays out with the Ducks, and if the staff decides to offer someone else, I think that would probably tell us all we need to know. I really thought that the hot and heavy pursuit of Honigford kind of gave away that the staff has moved on, and maybe they come back to Vera-Tucker and swoop in to steal him into the Flock.

To me, the key will be simple, if Greatwood goes fishing for yet another prospect, it should put this stuff to rest. Recruiting! It's a crazy guessing game sometimes!

GD Comcast!

Just got a notice from my cable provider Comcast that they are going to dump the HD channel that covers Oregon sports and put it into an extra pay slot that will include all PAC teams and not HD.

That is about all we ever use the HD channel for and I record the Duck games.

I do not know if anyone else will be affected by this, but it is the killer for my continuing with Comcast. It i amazing how the children who control such programing can assume that their arbitrary decisions make anything better. Good-by Comcast! You have nothing else to attract me.
