Cliff Harris Busted Again

Dang, I really... really liked this kid. He was a great ball player, had a great personality and smile, and was deeply involved in making Oregon the brand it is today, or at least 2 years ago.

Now he looks like Old Dirty Bastard from Wu Tang. Sheesh.

Just another mistake by MH letting this guy get in trouble! That was for you UD ;):D

Up early and nothing better to do...

So, I started thinking about Duck football (I know...hardly ever happens, right?). Well, after a couple hours, I decided to see what you guys thought.

Anyway, I started thinking about who I see as the real PLAYERS on this team - the ones we see making plays, the guys we count on to consistently step up when the team needs them. Here's what I came up with, please add your additions, comments or corrections:

Offense:
Jake Hanson (has he made a mistake this year?)
Johnny Mundt (quietly does his job - and does it well)
Jalen Brown (responsible for 5-6 long runs with his blocking & is a REAL good receiver)
Justin Herbert (Duh...)
(what is it with the J's?)
Royce Freeman (Double Duh!)
Tony Brooks-James (started the year #4 on the depth chart but has made his mark)

Defense:
Jalen Jelks (Solid against the run & maybe our best pass rusher)
Troy Dye (not really sure...just something about him <sarcasm>)
Jimmie Swain (surprised me a bit, but he's really come on & should improve)
Ugo Amadi (quietly become our most dependable corner)
Brenden Schooler (saved our ass WAY too many times & leads the team in INTs)

Special Teams:
Matt Wogan (almost NO runbacks when he kicks off)
Adrian Schneider (4 misses in 2 years - and steady under pressure)
Charles Nelson (a threat that teams scheme against)

Ok, guys...your turn.

OTL: What's That Name?

I've always wondered how many ways there are to torture the spelling of players' names into improbable pronouncements. The most felonious is probably the torturing of the French, antoine, to antowain. Right here we have another problem with our esteemed Mr. Mondeaux.

Now we're instructed by announcers that it's to be said as if "mon dew". Now any respectful Frenchman hearing this would exclaim "mon dieu", or "my god!!' And the burghers of Bordeaux would drown the insult in a full glass of their best claret, muttering "c'est ' bor dough', stupide." Simply meaning there is no dieu in deaux, or in English, no dew in dough.

I guess the Mondeaux family can pronounce their name any which way they please. I just wish the French name my father hung on me after too many cognacs would escape my endless explanations and excuses. But I'll take that glass of Bordeaux, Mr. Mondeaux.

Just having some fun, guys. Trying to lighten it up.

Rutger Reitmaier...

I caught up with the Nashville DT after his OV last weekend. The most important part is that even though he tripped to Michigan and will take one more OV, he is very solid to Oregon. Certainly can't blame him for taking trips. You only get one chance in your life to take OV's.

I will have the article up later today. But just know that Rutger is solid.

Recruiting numbers for 2017

QD96 was asking about WR in the other thread, so as not to hijack that one, I'm over here throwing together what the class makeup might look at for this upcoming recruiting class. I've said before that I expect somewhere between 18-20, but here is my further breakdown:

1 QB (Although they will ideally sign someone this year, if they don't find the right person, it might be better to just risk it and go for a couple talented 2018 prospects)

2 RB (CJ is in the house, but they will surely want to grab another this class)

2 WR (Stanford is gone after this year, and barring a terrible season, Carrington will go NFL as well. Oregon will definitely aim for 2)

2-3 TE (Oregon loses 3 TE this year, and will need to at least sign 2, and could aim for filling in 3 if the right 3rd comes along)

2-3 OL (Oregon loses 2 OL this year, and will need to replace those. Their current total number of OL is at 14, so they could stand to grab another, again if the right one comes along)

3-4 DL (Oregon loses 3 DL this year, they have Langi Tuifua in at DE, and I think they will likely aim for a big DT and another DE. If a second big DT wanted to come on board, I think the coaches would make room)

1-2 LB (Oregon only loses a single LB, and would like to add an interior LB, I could see them going after an OLB as well if the right one wanted to commit)

4 DB (Oregon will only be losing 1 DB, but will likely look to add 3 corners and a safety)

Some of these numbers will impact others, so it will be a quality of recruit/need based decision once some commits start coming in.

Kilkenny cries foul on the Knight $10M reporting...

Pat Kilkenny was on John Canzono's radio program today and addressed a few things dear to his heart.

On reporting that PK was going to pay a coach big bucks to come in:

“Things get said in the media that are out and out fabrications.”

On Helfrich

"It's not just about winning games it's about making sure your leader is someone you're proud of. We have that in spades."

But will he be back?

“I am not going to go down that path. I certainly wouldn't undermine Rob Mullens”

Next year...

"Next year I am absolutely confident we will be a lot better. Beyond that, someone else will deal with the details."

Taking Every Bullet

MH - "I'll take every bullet as long as those guys are battling their face off"

This is a commendable approach. It is also the approach many/most coaches take. The problem seems to be the generals are consistently marching the troops into an ambush. The guys, in a lot of cases, are in fact battling their faces off based on the information and coaching given to them. But talk to any soldier that has been in the thick of battle and they will tell you, if leadership is continuously putting them in position to lose the fight, moral will drop. When moral drops, so does effort.
