MPSF Indoor Meet Concludes

I managed to follow the meet and the game simultaneously.

The AD will get a complete report up later today. I'll try to post it, if someone else doesn't beat me to it.

For those of you who might not be aware of it, this meet is the Indoor track conference championships. There is no Pac 12 Indoor championship meet. However The MPSF has a lot more schools in it than just Pac 12 schools. So, it is actually more major than a Pac 12 conference championship in terms of entries.

In the end, the Oregon men edged out USC in the team competition. The USC women edged out the Oregon women in the team competition. However, it really doesn't matter. Oregon wasn't there to win the MPSF championship. They were there to qualify athletes for the NCAA championships. The same could be said of USC. The coaches held some key athletes out or back who were already certain of qualifying for the Dance. However, some outstanding athletes, like Hannah Cunliffe, still competed...and competed hard.

Next stop is the NCAA Indoor championships.

Track Report Day 1 MPSF

Here is the write up from the UO AD website. Click on the link below. I want to make just one note. One of the great side aspects of track has to do with the relativity of achievement. It goes beyond winning when someone performs beyond their perceived abilities, no matter where they might finish. Today, as in the women's cross country NCAA championships, we once again witnessed such an effort and accomplishment by Sheldon High School graduate Maggie Schamaedick.

Perhaps the best women's distance runner in college is Colorado's Erin Clark. Erin is also from Eugene. She ran for South Eugene when Maggie was at Sheldon. Although Maggie finished second to Erin today, she had the race of her life. Maggie was not expected to make the NCAA championships, but to her credit, she will be going dancing. Congratulations Maggie...you have added luster to your university's storied track legacy!

Women Ducks On Way To Making History

Click on the image to get article. If it requires a subscription to flotrack in order to get it up (I don't know) then here is an excerpt from the article:

"Next month in College Station, the Oregon women have a chance to make history at the NCAA championships. The Ducks have won six of the last seven NCAA indoor titles, but if their sprint and mid-distance corps stay healthy, they could be chasing not just the competition but all-time great team scores."
.............................................................................................................................................................
Cunliffe, Wallace, Rainsberger, Stevens, Rogers and the DMR are all form charted to have Duck first place finishes. The Ducks are also form charted to have a 2nd, two 3rds, two 5ths, and two 7ths...
If that all comes true, it will be the most dominant indoor women's track team in NCAA history.
