🦆Wednesday War Room: Gabriel and Dickey

🟢 He praised Gabriel's decision-making and leadership qualities both on and off the field, emphasizing his impact beyond the game of football. The team's positive response to Gabriel further underscores his importance as a leader within the program.

🟢 It is still tough to know how much of the early praise being heaped on Dickey is coach speak and how much is the promise that was evident during the recruiting process is starting to shine.

Dillon Gabriel taking on key leadership role with the Ducks

Here's a great story from Aaron on how the new Oregon quarterback is taking it upon himself to bring the offense together this spring.

Here are today's post-practice videos from Day 6 of Oregon spring practice with head coach Dan Lanning, defensive line coach Tony Tuioti, outside linebacker Teitum Tuioti, defensive end Matayo Uiagalelei and quarterback Dillon Gabriel. We will have more from practice a little later.

OH VERY YOUNG: DEFENSE

With apologies to Cat Stevens.

The O just posted today's depth chart for football.

On D:

Seniors 14
Juniors 2
Sophomores 10
Freshmen 21

Note the lack of Juniors...I assume that is the effect of Lanning's house cleaning.

Dontae Manning is listed as both a Junior and a Senior at two different positions

Across the three positions on the D-Line:

Seniors 3
Juniors 0
Sophomores 2
Freshmen 8

Across 4 LB positions:

Seniors 4
Juniors 0
Sophomores 6
Freshmen 5

🦆Flock Talk: The Way of the Buffalo

What I noticed more this week than anything is the continued demise of former Pac-12 members Washington State and Oregon State. Whether the relegation is deserved or not, in many ways it is difficult to watch from the outside as those people close to the program start to suffer from the reality that has started to hit them head on. Sure, there are many ways to look at whether there is sympathy or not and it is not my job to say we should hold sympathy for a once bitter rival.

Where my own sympathies lay is not in their demise itself, but in just how close Oregon really could have been to suffering the same fate. After all, the Ducks might be a waffle iron away from irrelevance on their own. Would the Ducks have had the same marketing arm at their side without the facilities and uniforms at their disposal? What if no one had gone up to Mike Bellotti after the thrashing by Colorado in the 1996 Cotton Bowl and asked him what he needed to get to the next level?

Super-League Proposal for CFB

It’s a story behind the paywall at the Athletic. Some key excerpts:

“One league overseeing college football’s highest level. No more conferences as we’ve known them. Playoff berths being decided solely on the field. Promotion and relegation for smaller schools. Players being paid directly. NIL and the transfer portal, managed.

A group of influential leaders wants to make all this happen soon — and they are pitching it as the best way forward for a sport they believe needs saving.

Several college presidents, Roger Goodell’s primary lieutenant at the NFL and some of sports’ top executives have devised a plan — dubbed by outsiders as a “Super League” — to completely transform college football, those involved in the group “College Sports Tomorrow” (CST) told The Athletic. Although the plan has drawn skepticism from within the sport’s current institutions, the people behind the ideas believe they must be implemented.

“The current model for governing and managing college athletics is dead,” Syracuse chancellor Kent Syverud told The Athletic during an interview.”

Very interesting read for those who can access it.

PS: I don’t seem to be able to access formatting options from my iPhone currently, for whatever reasons. So I can’t embed the quoted material, or put it in italics, or any other way of distinguishing. This has been the case since I got my 14, in case anyone knows any simple solutions to this issue.

Bo Nix ‘will likely be drafted’ in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft

Bo Nix is projected as a first-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft by multiple draft analysts.

I'VE ENTERED THE PORTAL

As much as I love this site, I need to look out for myself and my family (please, I REALLY need a Lambo).

Therefore I have entered the Fan Transfer Portal.

Please don't be a hater...respect my decision.

The sites that are recruiting me the hardest are USA Today, Oregon Live, On3, Scout (they still around?) ESPN, CBS Sports, and many more.

I won't say it to the media, but I am really afraid of the competition here at Rivals and I think that I can get more Screen Time elsewhere. (Plus..all my friends are telling me to move on).

I feel that I owe it to myself to maximize my earnings potential and life lifelong relationships really don't mean squat to me anymore.

I reserve the right to change my mind at any time because it's all about me.

I also believe that if I transfer I may be able to find a site that is more friendly to my idea of starting a fans union...I mean...why should the players get all the perks? Anybody for free game tickets just for showing up?

Once again it was fun here but I need to explore my options....PLEASE DON'T HATE ME!
