MPSF Meet Summary

I want to point out the unusual amount of PRs among our Ducks in this meet. Was Oregon the best team st this meet? Maybe not quite, but hats off to the athletes and the coaches for bringing in a team that was prepared to do their best. This team as good reason to be proud of their performances, and we all have good reason to be proud of our Duck Track and Field team. Now on to the Dance!

MPSF Championships

MPSF is the indoor track conference to which the Ducks belong. For some, winning the conference championship is important, but for Oregon it is a necessary stepping stone on the way to the NCAA championships. The most important thing is to get as many athletes at qualifying marks to be able to compete in the NCAA championships ...aka “The Dance”
Unfortunately, other responsibilities prevented me from following today’s competition.... seems like I missed quite a show. I will now try to update this thread with some teeets from the Oregon Track Twitter Page.... our kids did well.

Track: MPSF Meet, Seattle Washington

For a fourth time this indoor season, the Ducks are headed to Seattle for this weekend's MPSF Championships. The two-day meet begins Friday at Dempsey Indoor and will be streamed live by FloTrack. The meet will serve as Oregon's final tune-up for the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 8-9) in Birmingham, Ala.

Last Time Out
The Men of Oregon made the most of last-chance weekend with four sub-4:00 miles and a top-10 DMR effort in Seattle. With their efforts, Charlie Hunter, James West and Blake Haney currently sit fifth, sixth and 15th, respectively, on this season's NCAA performance list. In the DMR, the quartet of West, Jacob Miller, Reed Brown and Cooper Teare combined for a time of 9:28.6 which ranks No. 8 nationally.

Moving Up the Ranks
In the Week 5 USTFCCCA release, the women are up to No. 3 and the men move up to No. 10, season highs for both teams. Oregon is one of three programs in the country—Florida, LSU—with both men's and women's teams in the top 10.

That's Six
With Saturday's mile at the UW Last Chance (Feb. 16), the Men of Oregon have six sub-4:00 milers this season. Four of those times currently rank inside the NCAA top 16.

Charlie Hunter – 3:57.74
James West – 3:57.75
Reed Brown – 3:58.22
Blake Haney – 3:58.73
Cooper Teare – 3:59.21
Jackson Mestler – 3:59.73

Returning Champs
Carmela Cardama Baez (5,000m) and Rhesa Foster (long jump) each turning in first-place performances at last year's MPSF meet. In her race, Cardama Baez registered a personal best of 15:55.00 to win. Foster enters the weekend ranked No. 6 in the long jump this season.

Flock Talk fun

I had a little bit of creative fun and license in today's piece looking at the existential football angst in the search for a defensive coordinator, plus some recruiting tidbits.

I doubt very seriously very many people know either of the two 80's song references without a quick (or lengthy) google search, but it was fun to write about the search for a DC, the reasons for fear and ponder the options and which one is least risky at this juncture.

Have a great weekend all!
