Not sure what all the hysteria is about

1) The Ducks DID offer Wilcox. It's coming from many reliable sources. I'm confused as to why everyone feels the need to deny this is even possible....lol Why did he turn it down? I don't know ,but my guess is that it was a bit insulting as far as the compensation, his control over who to hire, the corny T-shirts, the pressure coming in when half the fans would be pissed off about it etc. Wilcox is a really good coach. He would probably kill it at Oregon. Recruiting at Oregon a hell of a lot easier than recruiting to Cal. He is a Pac 12 head coach though. Probably wants to run it without being treated like a 2nd class coach.

2) Some ex-players wrote a letter. Who cares? They wanted a Duck guy that would not bolt 2 years after the Wille Cristobal era. Personally, I would just like the best coach and don't care if he is a Duck , but they all seem to have the programs best interest at heart. They wrote the letter well before Lanning was hired. All of them seem to be on board with Lanning now that he is the guy. Lanning seems to be on board with Ex-players from what he said today. No problem that I can see

3) The Canzano hatred. I have been pissed at Canzano before, but I can't figure what he did to make so many Duck fans go crazy. He is a journalist. He is not a Duck homer, or alum, but he treats the Ducks fairly 95% of the time. The times he didn't I felt were over years ago. His radio show is top notch and he is a good writer. He was right about Wilcox and right about the letter

My best guess is that most of the people up in arms are recent Duck fans that are nouveau rich, and have been through maybe one losing season in their lives ( Helfrich). Again , who cares? The Ducks hired a young up and comer. Unproven as a head coach , but I'm predicting that him and his young staff are going to kick some serious ass

Fwiw...here is what should be a binky or a blankie...

It has been fun, often times contentious, but exciting and interesting during this whirlwind football coaching change.

It has been a huge distraction and it is time to get back to the more important things in life, namely the big event coming up this week that we have been waiting for for months!

You all know what I am referring to!

REPORT: Prime target emerges for Oregon offensive coordinator

How well will Oregon head coach Dan Lanning match up against USC and Lincoln Riley? His hire of an offensive coordinator will shape that answer and give us more of a basis for judging the Ducks’ big decision.

College football insider Bruce Feldman is out with a report on a central target for the Ducks. Our friends at Ducks Wire picked up that report.
Both Lanning and Dillingham coached together with the Memphis Tigers a few years back.
With the hiring of Lanning, the Ducks made it clear that they are prioritizing defense and recruiting, of which the former Georgia DC is among the best in the nation at. But they need a strong OC who can keep the offense at a championship-caliber.
If you were to ask Florida State fans about Dillingham, they would tell you Dillingham contains some value as a recruiter, but that he hasn’t been able to engineer a true transformation of the Seminoles under head coach Mike Norvell, who will enter the 2022 season on the hot seat.
USC fans would love this hire if Oregon and Lanning make it. Imagine the other offensive coordinator candidates the Ducks could pursue.
Dan Mullen.
Justin Fuente.
Joe Brady.
Jeff Grimes of Baylor, who has been fantastic under Dave Aranda.
Warren Ruggiero, who led a spectacular Wake Forest offense and got the most out of his talent with the Demon Deacons under head coach Dave Clawson.
One can think of several other offensive minds far more innovative and successful than Dillingham.
Dillingham is just 31 years old. Lanning needs a proven, steady hand as his offensive play-caller. If this really is the move, USC fans would not exactly quake in their boots.
It wouldn’t be a terrible hire; Dillingham has coached in the midst of a messy situation at Florida State. He hasn’t been coaching the caliber of talent he would have in Oregon, so there is some upside for the Ducks. Yet, compared to other options, the Ducks could do so much better than this.
We will see if this is actually the hire, or if this is a tease.

For those involved in the Mario lovefest this week

MC off for in-home visits with Kelvin Banks and Cameron Williams the next two days. Odd behavior for a guy who loves us Duck folk so much and wants us to do so well. Seems like he would have sent those guys our way. Watch him move on players in the program next. At that point I'm guessing the lovefest will be over, and people will start to realize what a snake that guy is

Verone McKinley III joins KT as consensus All-American

EUGENE, Ore. — Verone McKinley III joined Kayvon Thibodeaux as a 2021 consensus all-American on Tuesday as both Ducks were named to the Sporting News All-America first team.

A player is recognized as a consensus all-American after being named to the first team by at least half of the five official selectors – the Walter Camp Football Foundation (WCFF), Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Associated Press (AP), Sporting News, and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

McKinley has now earned first-team all-America honors by the WCFF, AP, and Sporting News, while also landing on the FWAA second team. The AFCA all-America teams will be revealed on Wednesday.

Thibodeaux secured consensus all-America status on Monday with the release of the AP all-America team. He has been named to the first team by each of the first four official selectors, and can become the fourth unanimous all-American in program history if he is named to the first team by the AFCA.

Thibodeaux and McKinley are the ninth and 10th consensus all-Americans ever for the Ducks, and the first pair of teammates to earn the honor in the same season since Marcus Mariota and Ifo Ekpre-Olomu in 2014. LaMichael James and Cliff Harris also were consensus all-Americans in the same season in 2010.

What would've happened if...

We had chosen Leavitt over MC for the HC position 4 years ago? Jim seemed to love the area and had a good resume in working with high caliber defensive players. Would Mario have stayed on 4 years as the OL coach and we still benefit from his great recruiting? Would we have gotten a more seasoned OC or less restrictions on the offense? Would Leavitt and Co still be around or would they have used us as a stepping stone? Would we still have signed 3 top 10 classes?

This is meant to be an intelligent discussion of what ifs. I'm on board with Lanning but interested in the "what ifs" had we gone another direction at that time. If you feel compelled to respond in all caps, make snarky remarks, or name call if someone has a different opinion please find a different thread.
