Introducing the weekly DSA Staff Roundtable!

Every week moving forward, we'll gather the perspectives of the staff on a couple or few storylines or topics each week. I had two flights today, so apologies for the late post.

It was great to have A.J. involved in this, as he will be all season. He, Scott, Brandon and myself all weighed in on the topics.

Check it out:

Make sure to read Scott's Friday Flock Talk column -- good perspective on Bo Nix's history of home/road splits and more

Scott looks at Bo Nix's history of home/road splits, some thoughts on the Pac-12's present strategy for continued existence and recruiting notes.

Checking in on the commits: Latest performances from Sept. 16

Oregon commits had a lot of big performances last week highlighted by strong showings from Dante Moore and Dante Dowdell. The defensive line commits across the board also put together some impressive showings in their latest games. I rounded up the stats for you all at the link above.

UO chants

Would have hoped for better. The answer to an unanserable or stupid argument is not a response in kind, but a better argument. These are college educated individuales and i would have hoped for better.

Fifth Quarter: BYU

Alright, early game means I had much earlier coherence this morning. Fifth Quarter is up. Would have done it last night, but wanted a chance to look at grades first. Here you go everyone:

CBS Gives Mario an F

Man, I really like the mix of play calling Dan and Dilly use compared to the last few boring ass years. Meanwhile....

"No. 13 Miami didn't score a touchdown and coach Mario Cristobal's game management was abysmal, but at least the defense looked good in the 17-9 loss at No. 24 Texas A&M."

Kliavkoff would still welcome UCLA

Sounds like he was on a Canzano podcast and reminds UCLA of the added expenses of being in the B1G, that the U Cal Bd of Regents could veto the move....I have no idea how realistic this is, especially when it was SC and UCLA who apparently got this whole thing rolling.

Notable new offer: 2023 LB Arion Carter from Tennessee

I talked to Arion earlier this week actually, before the Oregon offer. He's racking up notable offers in the last week, including Alabama, Auburn, USC, Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan, Florida, etc.

He was at Alabama last weekend and wants to get back. He also really likes Wake Forest due to his relationship with the ILB coach there and what they offer in terms of health science and the medical facilities in the area.

He's still committed to Memphis (and still rated a two-star for now -- that will change), but he's going to explore all his options.

Visit reaction: California LB Blake Nichelson has high praise for Ducks after latest trip

Manteca HS recruit Blake Nichelson is one of the most impressive two-way players in California for 2023. He had 44 touchdowns overall and accounted for over 2,600 yards of total offense in 2021. However, most schools are looking at him to play linebacker. Oregon wants him at inside linebacker, and he made another trip to Eugene over the weekend for the team's spring game where he spent a couple days getting to know the coaches and team some more. At this point the Ducks have made a major move for him and he is not shy about Oregon being one of the top schools on his list now after the latest visit with the team. He visited Utah last week and has made a couple trips to USC plus a visit to Cal over the last month.

I've talked to him about all those trips and he doesn't speak about the other visits like he does about Oregon. It's clear the Ducks have built some strong momentum in his recruitment. He sounded very tempted to call Oregon his leader, but for now he's holding off on that. He is starting to plan out his official visits, so we'll see where that goes but Oregon has positioned itself well after his latest visit.

“They definitely view me as an inside backer, and obviously I know they’re huge on defense right now considering their head coach was just the defensive coordinator at Georgia and they have coach Tosh and coach Long. They’re definitely one of my top picks right now. Overall, everything about them stuck out to me throughout the entire process, and I definitely could see myself going there and playing linebacker there.”

Joey Olsen to USC

24 class. Maybe this was reported already. We need to step up the TE recruiting (and OL). Still a 3 star WR on Rivals, but I have read he up to 220 already so he's on track to a TE build. This one stings. Easy 4 star in the end. There's still another guy from Medford who is a 3-4 star too. Don't want to miss on him.

Brandon Dorlus named Pac-12 co-Defensive Lineman of the Week

  • Led Oregon with a career-high seven tackles in the Ducks' dominant win over then-No. 12 BYU.
  • Added 1.5 tackles for loss and half a sack, his 13th career game with multiple TFLs.
  • Earned a solid 77.1 tackling grade from Pro Football Focus.
  • First time winning this award for Dorlus, with Oregon taking it home three times last year. In 2021, Kayvon Thibodeaux won it twice and Bradyn Swinson was honored after the Ducks' Week 2 win at Ohio State.
He shares the honor with Arizona's Hunter Echols.
