early entrees

Matayo's dad had a post shown on the home page feed that said he was here and that there were 30 new enrollees. I know of some of the early freshman enrollees and assume the portal guys are also coming in. No way that's 30 scholarship guys, so many must be new pwo's (or he counted wrong). It will be interesting to see the list of new scholarships on campus now. They may not update roster until spring practice.

College Football HOF ballot ...

IRVING, Texas — Oregon football legends LaMichael James and Haloti Ngata have been named to the 2023 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame announced on Monday morning.

James and Ngata are included among 80 players and nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision, and 96 players and 33 coaches from the divisional ranks.

The ballot is sent to the more than 12,000 NFF members and current Hall of Famers whose votes will be tabulated and submitted to the NFF’s Honors Court, which will deliberate and select the class. The Honors Court, chaired by NFF Board Member and College Football Hall of Famer Archie Griffin from Ohio State, includes an elite and geographically diverse pool of athletic administrators, Hall of Famers and members of the media.

“It’s an enormous honor to just be on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot considering more than 5.54 million people have played college football and only 1,056 players have been inducted,” NFF President and CEO Steve Hatchell said. “The Hall’s requirement of being a First-Team All-American creates a much smaller pool of about 1,500 individuals who are even eligible. Being in today’s elite group means an individual is truly among the greatest to have ever played the game, and we look forward to announcing the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame Class early next year.”

The announcement of the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be made in early 2023, with specific details to be announced in the future.

The 2023 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be officially inducted during the 65th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 5, 2023, and permanently immortalized at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. They will also be honored at their respective schools with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the 2023 season.

2023 FBS PLAYER CANDIDATE CAPSULE BIOS

LaMichael James, Oregon – Running Back –
Two-time First Team All-American (unanimous in 2010) and 2010 Doak Walker Award winner…Two-time First Team All-Conference selection finished third in 2010 Heisman voting (nation-leading 1,731 rushing yards)…Led the Ducks to two 12-win seasons, three league titles and a 2011 BCS National Championship appearance.

Haloti Ngata, Oregon – Defensive Tackle –
2005 consensus First Team All-American, the Ducks’ first consensus player since 1962…Two-time All-Pac-10 selection and first player in Oregon history to be named Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year (2005)…2005 finalist for the Nagurski and Outland trophies and 2002 Freshman All-American.

The criteria for Hall of Fame consideration include:

• First and foremost, a player must have received First-Team All-America recognition by a selector that is recognized by the NCAA and utilized to comprise its consensus All-America teams.

• A player becomes eligible for consideration by the Foundation’s Honors Courts 10 full seasons after his final year of intercollegiate football played.

• While each nominee’s football achievements in college are of prime consideration, his post-football record as a citizen is also weighed. He must have proven himself worthy as a citizen, carrying the ideals of football forward into his relations with his community. Consideration may also be given for academic honors and whether the candidate earned a college degree.

• Players must have played their last year of intercollegiate football within the last 50 years.* For example, to be eligible for the 2023 ballot, the player must have played his last year in 1973 or thereafter. In addition, players who are playing professionally and coaches who are coaching on the professional level are not eligible until after they retire.

• A coach becomes eligible three full seasons after retirement or immediately following retirement provided he is at least 70 years of age. Active coaches become eligible at 75 years of age. He must have been a head football coach for a minimum of 10 years and coached at least 100 games with a .600 winning percentage.

• Nominations may only be submitted by the current athletics director, head coach or sports information director (SID) of a potential candidate's collegiate institution. Nominations may also be submitted by the president/executive director of a dues-paying chapter of the National Football Foundation.

Once nominated for consideration, all FBS player candidates are submitted to one of eight District Screening Committees, depending on their school’s geographic location, which conducts a vote to determine who will appear on the ballot and represent their respective districts. Each year, approximately 15 candidates, who are not selected for the Hall of Fame but received significant votes in the final selection, will be named automatic holdovers and will bypass the district screening process and automatically appear on the ballot the following year. Additionally, the Veterans Committee may make recommendations to the Honors Court for exceptions that allow for the induction of players who played more than 50 years ago. The Honors Court annually reviews the Hall of Fame criteria to ensure a fair and streamlined process.

Of the 5.54 million individuals who have played college football since Princeton first battled Rutgers on Nov. 6, 1869, only 1,056 players have earned induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, or less than two one-hundredths of a percent (.02%) of those who have played the game during the past 152 years. From the coaching ranks, 226 individuals have achieved Hall of Fame distinction.

HOW DID WE MISS THIS GUY?

14. Storm Duck, CB

Transferring to: Penn State | Transferring from: North Carolina

HT: 6-0 | WT: 200 | Class: Fourth-year junior

Background: Duck played in all 13 games of his true freshman season in 2019 with nine starts. He had two interceptions and five pass breakups that year along with 37 total tackles. He missed most of the 2020 season because of an injury and played in six games during the 2021 campaign. He played in all 12 games this past season as a starting corner and had 46 total tackles, 3 interceptions and 9 pass breakups.

WBB struggling at ASU......up 32-26 at half!

The gals caught whatever the men have as they shot 27% in the first half. Our short bench (8 players) has four players with two fouls.......so rotations were a bit different time wise. And two of our three starting guards are a combined 2-16.......sheeesh!!!
This should be a rather easy game, maybe they read that I don't know. Let's see how the 2nd half goes. Go Lady Ducks!

Scott or Brandon, I have a question.....if anybody else knows please chime in.....

When are the end of the season evaluations with the players happening or have they? This year we are exceeding the player limit by quite a few with a few more possibly coming aboard so this will be interesting to follow. We used to rip the SEC for this but here we are........
I obviously expect a few portal entiries afterwards. On top of that do we think most who do choose the portal will go soon or some wait til' spring? Hard to know I know but are you guys hearing anything?

Jordan Burch

There have been rumors percolating via South Carolina folks that Burch was going to enter the transfer portal. I wanted to wait until he was officially in the portal because sometimes these young men change their minds and the negativity of rumors is not always a good thing.

Oregon is going to be a player here. Dan Lanning heavily recruited him out of high school and the Ducks have a legit chance here. Burch is up to 6-6, 275 (think DJ Johnson level athleticism) and was the third leading tackler for South Carolina with 60 total tackles, 7.5 TFL and 3.5 sacks this past season.

Ranking the All American Bowl QB's: Guess Who listed as no.1 ?

Ssorry if this was already posted, and it's free content. Gotta love this. And OSU's new QB Chiles at 4. None of it means much, but it's fun to see Novo ahead of Moore.
