MBB: Oregon adds Stetson transfer big man Mahamadou Diawara

Oregon has added a late transfer commitment from Stetson senior big man Mahamadou Diawara today. The 6-foot-10 center, who is originally from Mali, has made 81 starts in his career, but only five of those came last year. He played in 30 games during the 2022-23 season and averaged 4.1 points and 4.4 rebounds.

The Ducks will have to look to dip back into the success Diawara had as a freshman when he averaged a career-best 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds over the course of 33 games. His production has taken a dip since that first season, but he showed a knack for still having his scoring touch in the final game of the season giving Dana Altman and his staff a glimpse into some potential value with the addition.

Diawara scored 18 points (5-of-10 FGs) to go with 20 rebounds in a CBI postseason loss to Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the spring.

He's averaged 8.2 points and 5.8 rebounds in his four-year collegiate career at Stetson.

The Ducks now have 12 of their 13 allotted scholarships filled for the upcoming season with the addition of Diawara, who comes from the same city in Mali, Bamako, as Oregon senior big man N'Faly Dante.

Diawara was rated as a three-star prospect out of Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia as a member of the 2019 class. Penn State, East Carolina, Rhode Island and UMass were some of the schools that offered him as a high school recruit.

The Ducks picked him up after he entered the transfer portal just last Friday. Diawara is a graduate transfer with one season of eligibility remaining. Oregon has not yet announced his addition.

Conerly Mans Up to Penalties

It's subscriber only from the O, so I'll just include the quote.
In general, does anyone have thoughts on how he did when he wasn't off sides? Good pass protection? Tough situation for a LT with no hostile field starts at the position. They were so clean vs PSU so this is probably just chalked up to nerves, as he says. Sounds like Strother is back to practicing. Good thing, as they need more experience in the rotation.

“That was all me and my anxiety being too high,” Conerly said. “I really have to take a deep breathe and calm down. ... Of course, it’s a simple fix. I did take ownership of it and apologize to all the guys. Being the left tackle and being the starter, I have to hold myself to a higher standard and I can’t have such costly penalties like that.”

Five takeaways from Dan Lanning's press conference Monday night

Oregon never posted the video from Lanning's presser that I saw and I have not been able to download it from the dropbox, but Aaron Heisen covered it for us and had the key takeaways:

Texas Tech guessing results

We got our first two positive scores of the season, which is trick to do, as demonstrated by the rest of our scores. Wingman continues to be a source of worry for those of us who want to show up on tp as he divined a -1, followed closely by Adam with a -2 and Sharkie and Scott with -3's. But the champ this week is Grayduck with a +8 who surpassed the Rock' +1. (somebody scream at me if I got this wrong). Nobody got the spread right but Scott. Corey and Grayduck came closest.

Grayduck +8
Corey +1
Winger -1
Adam -2
Sharkie -3
Scott -3
10Duck -8
Rock -9
Fish -10
Quack -12
100% -13
Grave - 19
ME -29

I leave for NJ for a week but I'll make threads for the next two games before then. Results will have to wait unitl I am back. Somebody will have dig up the second game from past posts to make it available that week

Congrats, Grayduck

Dillon Brooks, The Bad Boy

Seems to relish it. New $80m contract to boot.
