Uncle Phil Question

I just return from my cousin’s funeral at the USC Newman Center. My cousin’s brother, along with his Washington student daughter, picked me up at my hotel and drove me to the church.

Along the way my cousin, who has a PhD in economics from Stanford but cheers for his beloved undergraduate university, USC, mentioned that his daughter was in mourning over losing DeBoer. She commented sweetly that if they were a Nike school like Oregon maybe Nike would have paid for their coach to stay like Nike did for Lanning.

My cousin then said with great authority “ yeah Uncle Phil had to really get out the check book in order to keep Lanning.”

I have been hearing people make this statement repeatedly. I don't care if Phil did “got out the check book”, but I have to wonder where these people are getting their info. I’m being a little bit sarcastic, but how can a well educated PhD from Stanford spew information that he doesn’t really have? Am I missing something? Was there a breaking story of Phil contacting the Athletic Department and offering a big bonus that kept Dan Lanning from going to Alabama , or is it that football fans are basically so tribal that their “knowledge” is based upon nothing but false assumptions?

Final Thoughts from Honolulu

Just wanted to mention that my wife and I fly to Kauai tomorrow morning and the plan is for me to not do much work Friday or Saturday.

This year has been different in Honolulu with the late arrivals of three players and seveal cancelations. But we still tried to get stuff from every practice; the driving around, time to get notes, etc. takes up a lot of our time (plus we were also delayed getting here by a day).

So this is sort of the chance to literally relax for two whole days (she does not get anywhere near the vacation time I do, so this is the only chance we get to do a true vacation).

So, if you hear nothing from me for a couple of days, just know that we are relaxing on a beach somewhere and will be back to reality Monday morning.

OT: How's the Weather Where you Are (At)?

We must be near record lows here in WL. 16 degrees with 20-30 mph house facing due East towards the river. Last big ice storm we had made my area look like a war zone, almost 2 weeks w/o power, over 2 months to clean up.
This one seems colder so the precip., instead of freezing rain is more like sleet. I miss the good old days when we got snow! This much powder would have been cool. This wind keeps dry sleet from building up on trees and power lines, thank goodness.
My sister's in Missoula where it's -9, but the winds have already peaked like they are peaking here now.
Where you at? How's Eugene or some other DSA home bases?
Great weekend for PSA's to visit, lol. Is the Cal game on or cancelled.?
Go Ducks.
